I’ve have a problem with water in the bilge of my boat for some time now. After a few hours on the water I will have at least 5 gal of water in the hull. I looked all around the hull for any holes or cracks and never found any until last night. I took the boat out yesterday and found I needed to replace a bunk once the boat was off. Once the boat was back on the trailer I went under it to check the bunk. I noticed a small crack with water seeping out of it. The crack is about the size of a dime and appears to be made by running up on something. My plan is to sand down the area a few inches around the crack and apply some fiberglass to seal it up.

I have a lot of polyester resin and mat left from a previous project that I want to use for this project. Would it be ok to use the poly resin to fix this problem?

-Charles

It's a good idea. But can you resin on both sides of the crack? In the boat i mean? That would be much better!

As long as you taper the repair so you have enough contact area for the patch to bond well, an inch or two larger than the hole will be plenty.
