I know how a 4 stroke crank gets its lubrication.
But how in the world does a 2 stroke crank get it's lubrication?

Suzuki 40

The oil is mixed with the fuel which all passes through the crankcase on its way to the combustion chamber.

I thought about that...but then I wondered, why would you run gas over your crank for lubrication? I thought that the bearings may have been self lubricating? but what you said could only be the way it would work.

Suzuki 40

Re: Question I never gave much thought about?

Most 2 stroke cranks run on either needle or ball bearings, so the oil that is in the gas is enough, and the pressure in the crankcase force the gas/oil mix into all the bearings. A four stroke crank bearing relies on a bearing system that uses oil as the actual bearing by suspending the crank in a thin layer of oil.

You have to thank SLOOPY for that one, I dug it up from one of his old posts.

I believe it was Joe Reeves that said that there is a small hole in the piston that forces lubed intake charge into the bearing, "force lubricating" it

I cant be certain tho, if ya didnt say that Joe, sorry, but I tend to take your words as if they were written into stone by fire, lol
