Just wondering what the cheapest paint that would be "good enough" basically for painting the bildge/engine bed/ back wall area would be? Something i can pick up at a homedepot or lowes if possible.

I use brush, and tip and roll technique. Rustoleum works pretty well. Though if you're trying to protect a chronically wet environment I'd go all out on some top-quality primer before applying the cheap finish paint.

Re: Quick paint question.

No, i'm referring to real marine-grade primer like interlux or the like. Killz 2 is latex primer if I'm not mistaken. Latex paint should be kept at least a 20' radius from any boat.

If you're going cheap on the finish coat make sure everything underneath is grade-a. You can re-finish when you need to, but re-priming and sealing is a pain in the #%#@.

Re: Quick paint question.

yes ezmobee let me know please asap

Sorry northcoats. Shipwreck sent me a PM and I answered him there so I forgot about this thread. Anyway, I used all regular Rustoleum spray can products for my entire re-paint job. I used their gray primer on the whole boat. I used a cool blue metallic flake color for the deck and then clear coated it. I used regular gloss white for the sides. Seems to be holding up well. I would not do the spray can thing again. It used a ton of cans and I think for what I ended up spending overall on paint I could have taken it to an autobody place and had it sprayed. Plus it was impossible to get a nice shiny finish on the sides with the white. The overspray would make it kinda flat. Next time I'll just get a couple quarts of white and roll/brush it on. Someone on here told me if you thin it out a little bit you can use Rustoleum in a sprayer. I don't have a sprayer though. That might work out better with less overspray than the spray cans because a sprayer has better flow.

Would two part pool paint work for the engine bay and back wall?

Re: Quick paint question.

Most pool paints will work, but you still need to prep the surface, that means cleaning and some sanding.

Re: Quick paint question.

Rustoleum with some valspar enamel hardener is good too. I get the enamel hardener at the local Tractor Supply Store.

That's a good tip. Is there a particular brand of hardener you use?
