Quicksilver fast idle lever adjustment

Hi I have a Mariner 75hp two stroke which is controlled by a commander 2000 control box.
I have recently had to dismantle this to replace the trim switch.
When reassembling the box I have noticed that although it all seems to fit together when the lever is lifted the cable it is attached to doesnt actually move until the lever is lifted almost vertically.
My engine has always been a pig to start when cold and so as an experiment I pulled the cable manually a little and started the engine - started easily first time. This leads me to believe that the cable is ill adjusted.
Can anyone let me know how the fast idle works (is it like a choke on a car?) and if it is possible to adjust

many thanks Gavin

It simple advances the trottle for starting I try to adjust them so when one lifts the lever that it moves the cable as soon as it is lifted to give max. responce

I am probably missing something obvious but how do you go about making an adjustment.

There is a metal plate with two slots cut into it with which the external lever engages and which then is attached (via a leverage mechanism) to the cable. I cant see any adjustment mechanism on the cable itself or any other obvious adjustment mechanism.

thanks Gavin

The adjustment is on the engine end just turn the anchor spools on the cables

Hey Laddies,

I too want to adjust mine, as mine does not start reving untill straight up...

On the engine I see that there is a threaded rod, But i don't see how to turn that rod to make an adjustment..

Thanks!

-TheChad

Hold on folks. If you fiddle with the anchors on the engine you affect the regular throttle operation. That adjustment must be made with with the cable end disconnected from the engine, throttle at neutral, throttle linkage on engine at full idle stop. If the cable end does not perfectly align with its mounting on the engine linkage, you adjust the anchor as required. If you have to move the throttle linkage on the engine, it is not correctly adjusted. Misadjustment will prevent return to idle or if wrong the other way will prevent the trottle from opening fully. Be sure you know what you are doing before messing with those adjustments. Get the anchors adjusted correctly for idle and full throttle and the fast idle will take care of itself unless there is excess wear in the mechanism.

Upinsmoke is right. Most mechanisms wear on the brass roller. Don't forget .040" (1mm)wear = 20% on the lever travel

Re: Quicksilver fast idle lever adjustment

I have a problem with Fast idle lever and trim control not working on quicksilver commander 2000 . Is this problem in the commander 200 or at the motor? After adjusting the carb to get enough fuel to start the motor,me and the wife took a ride, ran fine all day . I put it in neutral and it died, also my trim acts like it has no power. We paddled in and had to get a tow in the AM. I called myself checking the kill switch and it didn't seem to matter. The starter crank and spun the flywheel ,power tilt does not work. Any suggestions on where to start? Power problems? In the throttle control ?
