i had a tach installed by the dealer who installed my 99 50HP 4stroke.

with the motor OFF the tach sits at 1k rpm, is this normal? does this mean that my actual rpm's with motor running are 1k out?

Re: quicksilver tach question

Does is still float to this value even with the key turned on? If it resets back to 0 when you turn the ignition on (i.e. the gauge is getting power), then don't worry about it. It should be reading correctly.

If it is floating to 1K RPM with the key turned on, then I would expect some sort of issue present.

Re: quicksilver tach question

i went out and rechecked everything, and when i turned the ignition to "on" the tach reset itself to 0, not really sure what the issue was but it seems fine now. Maybe when i unhooked the harnessfrom the control box to redo my carpeting?

meh....

thanks for the input.
