Raccoons....getting rid of them

Hi All,
I was just reading some past posts regarding getting rid of raccoons, but a couple more tips couldn't hurt.
I have a family of 4 raccoons living under my shed...I saw them last night head for cover when I went in the back yard.
I do not want to relocate them with a cage and don't want to shoot them.
If I put ammonia around the perimeter of the shed, it will probably evaporate pretty quickly, so I'm looking for another method of eviction.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris.

Get a skunk to move in LOL!!!

Put them to work and they will leave! That works for the deadbeats around here.

I would just trap and re-locate them. A havaheart live trap and then you can sell the trat when you are done. Mostly any food works as bait.

I've heard that old gas, or kerosene residue in a jar or on a rag will keep them away. Haven't tried it, so can't vouch for if it will work or not.

About a year after our dog Bear got poisioned, a family of coons moved into my shed. I tried several things but nothing worked. Couldn't shoot them due to the location. The thing that worked for me was leaving my new dog outside for a week. The dog managed to kill one of the small ones and then the mother coon moved her family somewhere else. They sure don't like being around where dogs are. Just make sure the dog is big and don't like other small furry creatures. :D

Dogs and cats are great for keeping all sorts of pests away. Make sure your pets are up to date on all their shots. A dog is likely to get rabies from raccoons.

Used to be a time when we would go coon hunting and get 35-45 bucks for there pelts. I still think there worth a few bucks. Trap them, sell them, and buy gas for the boat.

Spool up some 50-100lbs braid, tie on a Gamakatsu Superline hook using improved clinch knot with a dab of super glue on the knot. Maybe you could have a rod&reel fight of a lifetime. :D Close your eyes and imagine a 50" muskie. :D

Well, I have had the radio on full blast in the shed for the past day. Going to buy some ammonia and place a couple bowls around the shed too. Hopefully that will get rid of them.
Thanks for the tips fellas, but I can't shoot em....I live within city limits.

Ayuh,...........

I got 10 Racoons, a Opossum,+ a Woodchuck in my Leg-hold trap this last summer at the river......

Gave them all 1 last Swim with a long Chain,+ then into a Body Bag for the trip to the Big Green Steel Box............

You wouldn't Believe the Damage they can do in the cabin of a Fishing Boat...............

The best method that I have is a live trap and a .22 pistol.

A good dog will scare them out. Then you just club them to death. That's what we used to do.

Have you tried "marking your territory" near the shed? Hopefully not in view of your neighbors...

Re: Raccoons....getting rid of them

There are many responses to pesky (Are there any other kind?) raccoons--ranging from Havahart traps to a dose of Zerex. The former is a good response in populated areas with neighbors' pets around; the latter in other situations.

Good luck....
