Rack and Pinion question

I just changed out the rack and pinion and I think I have a problem. The old came out quick and fairly easy; new one went OK. (Was told I would have pull the motor to install the cable through the tube. I didn't). I ran the cable first; centered the motor; then connected the motor arm. I installed the new steering pinion; then centered the steering wheel; then installed the rack. Much better! I turn the wheel to starboard; took 1 1/2 turns. Turned it to Port; got almost 3. Turning to starboard; its at the full turn.Got too dark to check the Port. Is this normal? Also; has anyone come up with a use for the bad cable? Junk?

Update! I let my finger do the walking. Made one phone call; talked to their super tech; he gave me the solution. Mod; you can close the post.

According to the Guru at Sea Star; there is no cure. It might or might not occur. There is no adjustment on the rack assembly. Once the cable is installed; the arm is hooked up; and the motor and steering wheel are centered;and the rack installed; no other adjustment can be done. Adjusting the tube on the motor will not help. He said very rarely would you need to use the motor in a complete turn stop in either direction. If you did; you could care less how many turns it took. Sounds strange; I know.

Yes it does sound strange because you can steer more in one direction than the other.

Thanks for the feedback for future searchers.
