Tiger, I would think that Radar would be overkill for a 22 footer, unless you are out at night a lot or in the fog a lot. if you confine your boating to clear daylight hours, radar is not essential. Is it worth it for those days when the fog rolls in? Well I think it better to keep an eye on the weather and run home on those days. However, if you go 20 miles offshore and the fog rolls in, radar would be a plus.
BTW - you do need a good GPS unit, whether or not you have radar. It would not be good if you hit a rock at night or in the fog. Radar won't help you on shoals and low rocks....
