I've got close to 2000 watts of stereo in my boat and I'm not afraid to use it...lol

Sound travels very well, over the water.

Even if you're annoying the He!! out of everyone else?

I don't like loud cars, bikes ,etc. I do like a nice mellow exhaust note though! However, I know many do like it loud.

I don't even mind them during the day. BUT, when you decide to BLAST OFF at 3:00 am, I get annoyed, very annoyed. I just think that's rude.

Head on over to party cove.......well it used to be a fun place now you have four boats all competing for the loudest radio award....unless you are fifteen feet away from their boat it all bleeds together.....do these people not realize they ruin the day for everyone else

Was hoping a few might read this and stop.....why can they not take turns playing their music...???

The loudest one could be the one that finds the "plug has gone missing" from his or her boat !!!

Loud pipes save lives.

No. They don't. They give primarily Harley riders an excuse to ride around and be obnoxious. Yet another great southpark episode covers this topic. But keep thinking that. Don't ride defensively. Hang out in blind spots thinking you're safe with your obnoxious pipes. Left turners can clearly hear you coming so don't cover the brake. The problem will work itself out eventually.

Southpark, really?? I agree that having loud pipes is not the end all. You have to practice safe riding. I even agree that most Harley guys don't do it for safety reasons, it's more for show. But, I do think that it makes a difference. The next time you hear a bike before you see it, it will validate my point. We have already had 2 bikers killed this year because a motorist pulled out in front of them and didn't know they were there. Just making a turn off of a side street. In my opinion those ridiculously loud pipes would have made a difference.

Loud pipes on motorcyles MIGHT save lives if they were pointed to the front. They aren't. The loudness is where the bike has been, not where the bike is going.

To each his own though. I don't care for the sound of a v-twin but a lot of people do.

Wow this thread kind of spun off......I do not mind the music really do not mind it being loud after all it is the Party Cove it is when three or four people all play different music......lots of interesting comments though.....I also ride and have pipes that are not real loud unless I crank the throttle and then I am either hauling the mail or I am letting you know I am there however defensive driving is #1 to safety and I attempt to not crank the throttle in populated areas.....courtesy and etiquette do seem to be going out the window these days along with common sense.....why would two boats be almost side by side and play different songs ??? just does not make sense to me

My g/f hates it, since I listen to the TV way to loud, but she doesn't understand I can't hear the TV over her talking, unless I turn it up

Some people have more senstive ears than others, I never like it when my ears hurt because of someones complete disregard. I never notice motor cycles from the sound when I am driving down the road. It is always when I am walking down the street.

Nope... I don't annoy people with the stereo... yes it can be loud and sometimes I play it loud, but not 6 foot away from another loud stereo. I always prefer someone else to run there batteries down instead of my own.

I agree... our new Mustang has Roush exhaust and my Tundra has a Gibson system... both have a deep exhaust note that others can hear, but I didn't get carried away and remove resonators or anything. The Mustang is a little loud at wide open throttle, but Mustangs should be loud... after all, its American muscle!

I guess I'm getting old...I don't want the stereo in my car or boat so loud as to drown out the engine. I like to be able to hear trouble if it happens.

Heck, a couple of years ago my dad bought a new tractor. When we got it, the radio didn't work. I told him to call the dealer. He said forget about it, because he wouldn't listen to it anyway, because he wanted to be able to listen to the machinery he would be using. I insisted that he call, because the tractor was far from cheap. It ended up they had taken the antenna off so it would go under bridges when it was delivered. They sent the antenna. To this day, he still hasn't put it on...LOL.

If you are on your own property, do what you want, I know I do, but if you're hearing my .458 win. mag., you're trespassing! I can understand wanting to hear music loud...I do, but they stream through my hearing aides(yes, my truck radio), and I don't mind hearing a good sound system, but when you want to play how you can desecrate you're "ho" with you're pimpin' and whatnot, I won't stand for it, and I don't want my son hearing it!

As far as loud pipes and bikers go, I'm all for them, but I shoundn't have to wear a seatbelt if they don't have to wear a helmet...PA law...

My truck?...Performance results with a factory sound...who would've thunk it???

Precisely. Grandma turning left in front of you doesn't hear your obnoxious driveway jewelry. The cars blind spot your probably riding in like an idiot might. Should you be there in the first place? Good thing you have assless chaps and a bandana on to protect you. Look how these guys dress. That shows you exactly how safety conscious they are.

While the noise is terrible on some bikes I understand that if other motorists can hear you coming they are less likely to cause an accident because they didn't know you were there.

I guess for me, if there is a logical reason behind the noise I can tolerate it much more than if it's done for no reason at all.

No they don't. Cars turning left in front of motorcyclists is by far the leading killer of riders today. Loud pipes project the noise rearward, where the fewest accidents come from. Loud pipes annoy drivers, and that's it. Show me a single study that shows annoying pipes save anyone. You can't.

Yeah, there are a few situations?like where you are right next to a driver with his window down who is about the to change lanes?where full-time noise-makers might help a driver notice you, but all that noise directed rearward doesn't do much in the most common and much more dangerous conflict where a car turns in front of you. Maybe it's the fatigue caused by the noise, maybe it's the attitudes of riders who insist on making annoying noise, or perhaps loud bikes annoy enough drivers to make them aggressive. Whatever the reason, the research shows that bikes with modified exhaust systems crash more frequently than those with stock pipes. If you really want to save lives, turn to a loud jacket or a bright helmet color, which have been proven to do the job. Or install a louder horn. Otherwise, just shut up.

I saw a man, probably 30ish the other day at a stoplight, w all windows and sunroof open, blareing very loud, thumping, annoying, music..... w a toddler strapped in a car seat in the back seat I could not tell if the child had earpugs or headphones on, but it was too loud for me from 40' away. Id rather listen to the Loons or Eagles or just the quiet, when I'm at the lake.

I got into one of those "loud pipes save lives" debates with one of my employees a while back. You know the one....wanna be middle aged biker "babe", rebel without a clue, who thinks cool equates to putting a harley logo on every piece of clothing she owns. She opined that the HD v-twin sounded like "rolling thunder" to her. I opined it sounded like a really loud fart to me. To each his/her own.

Back to the subject at hand.....

I have a loud boat that has a loud stereo. That doesn't mean that either HAS to be loud as the exhaust has a switch and the stereo has a volume knob. I know that not everyone wants to hear the music of a big block chevy (or Megadeth) so I act accordingly. Music gets turned down and/or exhaust gets quieted when around the docks or other boats, because that's the polite thing to do. We have a right (to a point) to listen to what we want, but we don't have the right to force others to listen....at least IMHO. I wish the middle aged hippies and teenagers understood that, but many don't. As for boats tied up together all playing different music, we see that a lot here....and I don't understand it either. :facepalm:

I just installed my 550w 12" sub in my boat. I wanted my dad to have a listen as it was dry-docked so I cranked her up for about 10seconds. 11 seconds later I heard a loud male voice from a block or two away yelling to "turn it down".

I am not one to disrespect my neighbors..we are all guilty of disrespecting them at some point in our lives. The downstream effect to this was interesting though. I have a neighbor kid a cpl yrs younger than me and he used to come into the development with his system blaring. This doesn't happen anymore...mine is bigger (and I know when to turn it on).

My dad said something that surprised me...his eyes widened when he heard it and I was expecting a "holy crap how can you hear yourself think son!" But what he said was "Damn that sounds good."
