As you can see in the photos, the previous owner must have hit something and knocked one of the rail posts out right from the screws in the fiberglass. They tried to fix it but did a sloppy job with some joint compound and silicon. So now I have a small wet spot inside the cabin where the screws are. I'm not sure how to address this. The rail is slightly warped which I can deal with. Should I bore our the troubled area and apply putty (there are still broken off screws , and leaking). Should I reposition the top joint (see pic), and a screw in bottom in a new spot to compensate for the rail warp?

All sort of scenerios running through my head. What do you folks think?

Here are the 2 pics for reference:

Dig out all the gunk they tried to fix it with and drill out the holes so you know they are clean. Then use epoxy to fill the holes, re-drill to the correct size, use something like 4200 and screw them down. If you can make it fit in the old position great (you should be able to), if not, do the best you can.

thru-bolts might be good for you. . .

what brand of boat is this? Railings and other fixtures really should be thru-bolted.
