Re: Ramp ettiquete?

we were in a similar situation in a local state park here in Oklahoma, but this idiot left his Jeep and trailor on the ramp the park rangers came and called a tow truck when the tow truck got there and was hooking up we heard someone hollaring and a man in a boat not 50 yards away and was coming across the water asking the park ranger why his vehicle was getting towed and that there was no one wanting to launch so his property wasnt bothering anything and we had been there for 45 minutes when the tow truck showed up and was 2nd in line to launch, so in the end the park ranger had the property towed and citated the owner for improper parking, guess it takes all types to make the world go around.

Re: Ramp ettiquete?

My question is: Whats keeping the one on the ramp from rolling into the water? My trailer wouldn't sit there if it wasn't fastened to somthing with a paking brake.

Anyone ever heard of a "Denver Boot"? Not only is the trailer locked down, you can't get the wheels off.

"Boot it", after they had been moved out of the way, of course. Same for the car.

After waiting a while, I would have moved the trailers to a safe parking space somewhere in the town, or some nearby town, or state.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm ..... you think there might have been some open space behind an outlying building at the marina? The owners of these two trailers would have found them, I'm sure .............. eventually.

Put a for sale sign on them and list the price as FREE. See if there are any takers. :D

Same thing that keeps my 4000lb boat from pulling my Jeep in the water when I'm launching. A rock behind the tire.

15mm lug wrench and a note is all you need... remove a tire from each leave a note saying ... I didnt want the trailer to roll in the drink

:mad:I would say just reomve all of the lugnuts. Of course after the trailors were moved out of the way. But then again the wheels would probably come off on the ramp and we would be right back in the same situation. It would still be fun to watch:D

Get a spray-can , paint it pink and put some wreck on it (marina's do have them all the time) and leave the trailer where it is. Video the lot when they come back.

I wouldn't be surpised if someone working at the marina left those trailers there.

Re: Ramp ettiquete?

This one of my biggest pet peeves, I am rarely on the ramp more than 3 minutes.
Probly the one that whizzed me off the most was last year,I was about to launch and this yoohoo pulls in and goes straight to the ramp, backs his boat in and then starts unloading his truck ect ect,he finally gets it in and moves his truck and floats his boat 20' directly behind the launch and sits there watching me try to squeeze my boat in, I almost offered him a bottle of beer, thrown with great force into his head.
I considered trimming the motor up and giving him a bath but didn't.
Another time, this one boggled my mind, the guy launches his boat, starts it and tears of up river full throttle,5 minutes later he comes back "sorry, he says,Had to warm up my boat" YIKES.
But I digress.

Re: Ramp ettiquete?

I have never been to a large lake where there are many boaters trying to get into the water, but I have been rather upset a few times at one of the little lakes I fish at. For some reason this lake seems to be the local swimming hole on hot days. There is even a large sign.....probably 6'x10' that says NO SWIMMING. I have even turned around and left at times becaus the locals are just so unruly about letting boats in there.

On another note.....one time I was taking my dad fishing and we pulled up to the launch site and there was an older guy there with his pickup and his 10 foot jon boat in the back. He was all by himself so I offered to lend him a hand. He was rude and yelled no, so I just backed away and watched. It was early June and boy that water was still cold. As he pushed the boat off the back of the truck and into the water he lost his balance and went in head first. I think he shot out of the water about 10 foot. I ran over to help and he was embarrased beyond belief, cold, and mad cause he wanted to go fishing. I offered to wait with his boat while he ran back to the house to change. He took that offer and was gone a few minutes. I think he learned his lesson, and I got the funniest boat ramp story ever.

Re: Ramp ettiquete?

I hate it when people clean fish on the launch dock and leave blood, guts, and skin all over it for everyone to step in and drag into their boats... and the occasional treble hook through the bottom of the foot.

I definitly would have dragged those trailers across the lot and out of my way. I guess no one at the marina cared enough to move them? The rednecks around here wouldn't think twice about moving those out of their way!

See, that was my first thought. They look like they were intentionally placed there to block use of the ramp. The fact that they aren't attached to vehicles and the placement of them in T fashion seems to indicate that they weren't just left there by somebody who went boating.

Did you inquire at the office?

Of course, if it WASN'T the marina staff who put them there, I certainly would have moved them, and left a note.

Re: Ramp ettiquete?

Just unscrew the lugs from one tire. Then put them back on with one thread. Just enough to let him get the boat off the ramp and 30 feet away from it.
