Well I had one of those days today :( broke down 45 miles (yes 45 miles by boat!) away from my truck/trailer. I was able to limp my boat 18 miles to a ramp against a good 15 mph wind. Well, I was able to phone a friend and get a ride to my truck (over 65 miles by car) and go back to retrieve my boat. Now the fun part....

I was with a lady friend who stayed with the boat while I was retrieving the truck. My "road trip" left this wonderful woman to babysit my sick boat and just enjoy the weather. Upon my return she felt as if she had seen all the ramp stunts written about here.....forgetting to raise the outdrive, lots and lots of screaming at drivers, children who were too bored hours before they got to the ramp and of course the old stand by creative backing!

Needless to say she had more fun being stuck at a ramp (which made her day complete) with the ability to watch the trickery.

Her comments were very uplifting to me. I was told I never yelled or screamed like she witnessed and I was capable of backing a trailer up. :D

So, all you wanna be newbie boaters be careful, that quiet woman is watching, learning and comparing!

Bob

Re: Ramp tricks

Yup a keeper! The 2 hours she spent watching ramp antics has made her a believer....and Crab Bait's comment has made her blush!

Well, today I have recovered and replaced the dead fuel pump, tossed in a cap and rotor for good measure. Hopefully it will not happen again and not that far from the truck.

Bob

Crab, she onle reads the ones I point out.

I have a fleet growing in my yard  15' tri hull w/85 Johnson, 22' Marathon cuddy I/O 170 and a vintage (soon to be junked!) 23' trojan wooden cuddy inline 6 cylinder inboard.

Anyone need parts from a seized 6 cly? I am going to yank the motor and trans and jusk the rest. Too much rot and many mant years of poor repairs and maintenance.

I actually bought it for the trailer.

Bob rpf924@hotmail.com

Re: Ramp tricks

Yeah Crab the boating is tough in the winter and when the ice is 4 feet thick it is rough on the prop :D

Anytime you want to venture up North your welcome to stay. I have plenty of room and you would get a kick out of seeing the old ceramic insulators in my house beams (not in use anymore). Strange wiring in the old farm house (built circa 1850's).

Lake George is 40 minutes away and Champlain is 20 minutes with lots of smaller lakes around. But boy do I miss good old salt water fishing.

15 years up here and still not to fond of ice fishing.

Bob (yeah we are getting closer ;) )

Re: Ramp tricks

Where were you Bob? Bomoseen or Lake Champlain? I towed a fella like yourself back to the ramp last Saturday... but it wasn't you unless you're Canadian...

bbb

Re: Ramp tricks

I was on Champlain. I did not have to get towed but I did manage to idle South (into the wind  ) to the Chimney point bridge. I had put in at South Bay in Whitehall, NY but went dead about 18 miles North of the bridge.

I managed to trailer out at the bridge. My original plans were to go to Burlington.

Bob
