Re: RAMPS Some people you can't help

I've just got one funny ramp story, but it didnt involve a boat.

Me and two friends were out cruising late at night, my buddy pulled up to the launch and was sitting nose first and the end of the ramp (pretty much the dirt road ended at the lake). Sat for a few minutes then my buddy goes to leave and puts his '85 S-10 Blazer in drive instead of reverse. Hits the gas and into the water it goes , he got to about the point water started rushing in the doors, me and my other buddy high tailed it over the back seat and out the back hatch window. Funny thing was that his Blazer wouldnt back out of the water. Figured the big 2.8L v6 couldnt get up enough power trying to turn the cooling fan in the water, he had to get someone to pull it out. All was fine once out of the water. I didnt know I could move so fast when I came flying out the back of that truck.

Most times I see that or the uber ghey "It's a jeep thing, you wouldn't understand" it's on a bone stock jeep that never wheels.

People like me, who have been upside down many times offroad chuckle at those silly people.

Hey skargo,
Not everyone with those stickers always keeps their jeep rubber down

Pay close attention to the writing on the rear skid-pan/bumper

I know, there are plenty of nimrods who roll on the street, or flat terrain.

That picture makes my point though, that Jeep is pretty stock looking, maybe with 32's on it. :D

Im a little surprised to see all the honda hate here.

I've owned honda's my whole life (my first car was an 88 civic) and have a 02 CRV currently (its actually my wife's daily driver) its been a great car and we use it to tow our snowmobile trailer, pop-up camper, and light weight 16' glastron bowrider...

We had it at two boat launches last weekend... no issues like that guy though, and certainly not an arrogant attitude like him...

Its just a car that does an OK job towing the light duty stuff and does very well in the snow and has been dead-nuts realible... that makes it a "good" vehicle in my opinion...

Heavy trailer = pickup truck

well, as funny as that is , I heard of a story awhile back of a guy who just bought a new cuddy cabin . So he and his wife , went to launch it on it's "Maiden Voyage" , so he launched the boat, then parked his truck. he and his wife untied from the dock, and started out in their new boat. The owner said to his wife that "gee the boat sure seems kinds sluggish, that for sure it should have more power than it has" !

So his wife suggested that maybe there was something they weren't doing correctly and should go back to the dock and ask someone to check it out to see if their was something wrong with their brand new boat, since this was their first boat , they went back to the dock. They found a guy that worked at the marina, and asked him to check it out. He said sure and proceded to walk around the boat ,, he checked the engine, etc... he said " it all seems fine, so he thought well let me just check the hull , etc. So he dove in and almost immediately came up gasping for air and laughing as hard as he could !!!

The new boat owers had launched their new boat ...... with the trailer still attached !!!!!!!

amazing !

It's not complete urban legen have you seen Bill Dance outtakes? The pin came out of his receiver and he was complaining about the boat not responding when his driver told him what happened. You can probably find it on Youtube.

Re: RAMPS Some people you can't help

So, I was wheeling with a friend one day (years ago when I had a CJ, mild lift, 33's and a couple upgrades) and he showed me a nice spot at the end of Stave Lake (Vancouver area).

Wasn't hard to get into, just one set of rocks i needed to climb over. So the next day I take my wife for a picnic, knowing I can get there and show her the sights.

Coming towards me is a Hyundai Pony (remember those?). Some girl driving. She stops to tell me the road is blocked ahead.

I'm staring down at her in her little car with 15 inch wheels and had the hardest time not laughing at her.

Needless to say I had no issue but just thought it was funny.

As to the OP, the key isn't that Honda's are bad vehicles (they aren't) just that this guy figured since it was a Honda, it could do anything. As someone said, he'd drunk the koolaid.

Woulda been fun to see him try to pull the boat out.

Re: RAMPS Some people you can't help

As far as water getting into the diff. the Honda CRV is front wheel drive and has no rear diff. unless it was a rare all wheel drive. I would be a little concerned about burying the exhaust under water though. That little Honda would have one hell of a time pulling that big boat back out of the water too.
