I Know .. Im A Mechanic And I Know My Way Ariund The Wrenches And He Is A Pizza Man.. Go Figure.. I Have The Manule To Take It Apart But Do I Really Need Th Take The Whole Powerhead Off?? I Would Like To Avoid That And Just Split The Case And Remove And Reinstall The Piston.. For Sure Im Going To Hon It Out And Mic Up The Rings To Make Sure It Seals.. I Work On Transmissions And I Have To Make Sure The Sealing Rings On The Center Support And Drums Seal Good,

My opinion.....Yes. You should also check the other cylinders for excessive wear while you are in there.

Opinions aside. There's simply no way to do it with the powerhead still on.

Ok, for the last time. The WHOLE powerhead has to come off, be put on a bench, and completely disassembled. You then need to take the cases into a MARINE machine shop and have them bored out to match an oversized piston (or two, or three). The shop will tell you which size you need to buy, and they'll need them before they do any machining. You then need to reassemble the powerhead, again on the bench. Once that's all finished, place it back over the exhaust adapter plate and re-attach.

Honestly, from the questions you're asking I think you're going to be in way over your head.

Not really in over my head. I know my way around tools and I was just asking if I could do it with the engine still on the boat. No need to show some !!!!!!!! Points.

Taking the power head off sounds like a big deal but it's much easier than you think.

Without an OEM shop manual, you're wasting your money on parts, but , hey, it's your money. "Knowing your way around tools" and transmissions is no help here.

Notice he says "with the engine still on the boat".

You can leave the ENGINE on the boat, but you HAVE to take the powerhead off the midsection of the engine and repair it on the bench. You cannot split the powerhead crankcase halves with the powerhead still attached to the midsection.

Does that clear it up any?

Another thing. Evinrude did not make a 250 in 1990. The pics you show are of a crossflow, and the 225 and 200 hp engines were loopers. My bet is that if it is a 1990 model, it is a 150 HP.
Post the model number found on the engine bracket.
Unfortunately, I too think you may be in over your head.

Yea I hit the 2 instead of the 1. It's a 150.

Another thing...I looked at your pic again. I really think you will never get the head gasket/o-rings to seal properly. The tops of the cylinders look awfullly beat up.

dasel, I was wondering/thinking the same thing. To the OP, what happened to that engine block? Looks like it's taken a very brutal beating.

It is fine. I know it looks like that in the pictures but it's not. Spiitting the powerhead right now needs a little persuasion..

It wasn't that bad of a job. The hardest part about it was getting the power head off. I pot it Back on and it runs. I just have to adjust the butterflys in the carbs. Does anyone have any good tips on how to adjust them correctly??
