My opinion regarding your friend's culpability is that if he was negligent in not following your instructions on how to operate the boat then he bears most if not all the responsibility. And he should step up and offer to pay a good portion of the expense of repair. However you should keep in mind that it could have been sheer chance that the engine failed when it did. That's hard to judge without a lot more information.

You made a judgement call on whether or not he was capable of operating your boat safely. Same goes with lending someone your tools or your car. I would hope that a true friendship would go deeper than a boat motor.

While I was in the engine I checked all the other pistons and they were fine. The valves inside weren't bent. I guess I got luckey with just one of them going. As far as my friend we both went half on the boat and he only has given me 100 twards it and I have done all the repairs as far as rewiring the dash and getting all the electronics to work and pulli g the powerhead. He bought 4 life vests fire exsingsger and 2 boyes. That's why I had anger twords him. He doesn't have the knowledge about engines. Bit that's my fault for going in on it with me. Next time I will know better. ????? Bit still to my other question does anyone know how to adjust the carb butterflies. I messed with them when I shouldn't have. ???????

whatever you do, don't buy the factory manual.
You've pretty well exhausted any goodwill so good luck.

The timing might be off too. I'm going to check the manual in a little bit.
