Rant Mode On! I want to hurt someone.

Got up this morning to my German Shepard barking and went to investigate. Found him in the yard with a young pup playing or trying to get the pup to play. I checked the pup out and I am guess it's age to be a female around 12 to 16 weeks old and it looked to be half starved to death. It's mostly a black lab but there is deffianately something else mixed in. By my eye and the shape of its face I am gussing some form of Bull.

My wife called all our nieghbors within any reasonable distance and it doesn't belong to anyone around here. Bottom line, some a-hole dummed the pup out in the country in the foolish belief it could survive on its own. I suspect because its a mixed breed because its one of the friendliest pups I've seen in a long time.

Due to where I live (a county with a total population under 2000) there is no animal shelter and the animal shelter the next county over won't take a stray from my county.

My choices, load the pup up in the truck and drop it somewhere else to make it someone eles' problem or put her down myself. I swear by all I hold dear I would MUCH RATHER put down the person that dumped it than I would the pup!

It may grow into the best dog you never had, you would be the one that saved it's life.

Let you shepherd take the pup under it's wing (so to speak). Just like kids...when you have one, what's two? They'll keep each other busy and out of your hair.

Is there a way to take the pup in for a bit?

I had some punks dump a styrofoam cooler off in my backyard. I looked in the cooler and it was half full of water with three kittens inside.

I was mad enough to burst. Even the police officer teared up in anger when I showed him the kittens that I had saved.

Put a free ad on Craigslist and let it run for a few days, you might be surprised, in my area, we, unfortunately get quite a few dogs abandoned and I have personally given three dogs a new home this way and all of the people love them like crazy...if you can put up with it for a couple of weeks, you may find yourself very surprised..

My lab mix died last summer afther 13 wounderful years. Would give my left #$% for just another year with her.Just like one of my kids . Just listened better.

Don't hear to many people tearing up with anger. Must be Irish. My Dad was one of those and so am I. I would take in the lab mix. They are some of the best dogs out there. My lab mix died last summer afther 13 wounderful years. Would give my left #$% for just another year with her.Just like one of my kids . Just listened better.

I'M thinking you and Bubba should talk if you are lookin for a new best furry friend.

Abit of a drive for a dog. Eh! I got a new dog a few months ago. I got a lab/dane mix named Loki. Good name. Eh!

He may have been, I don't know.
I just know that he was very angry and said he had no tolerance for those that abuse women, seniors and the disabled, or animals.
He proceeded to scour the neighborhood looking for the kids that left half-drowned kittens in that cooler.

Have someone in a county that accepts pets take the dog to the shelter for you, or post him on Craigslist. A lot of people can't afford the fees the shelters charge and would rather adopt a dog for free or cheaper off CL. I've done both things with cats. (actually I just lied at the shelter about what township I lived in and said I didn't any ID)

I'm not so sure that the dog was really dumped. A young dog like that running off is not that uncommon. Of course at 12-16 weeks I don't know how much ground he could cover.

I've seen "adult puppies" (oxymoron, I know) cover over 20 miles in a week. This is what happened with my neighbors 12 month old dog on new years. She is an Australian something or other (the blue dog) and was scared by fireworks. I'm sure a dog could cover that same 20 miles in a day in open country.

Anyways, the useful part of this story is that my neighbor posted the missing dog on CL daily and it took 2 weeks but the dog was recovered from a suburb 20 miles away. I think the people who found "Lucy" posted there own ad and the owner saw that. They had her for a week before they found her owner. I'd bet that was one expensive dog (pure breeds usually are).

CL it's how we communicate locally in present times. I hope that you can get this puppy a good home.

You say it is very friendly! I'm sure someone will want her. Lab mixes are about as good as it gets in the mutt world. Very Good temperament without all of the genetic defects of a pure breed.

Ether and Aussy Shepherd or a Blue Healer . My Red/Blue Healer cross (one of the loyalist dogs I ever had) was very afraid of thunder.

It's pretty common for a dog that age to wander off and get lost. Before you get too mad at somebody for dumping her try running an ad in craigslist as has been suggested, and check with you local newspaper. Our paper and many others will run lost and found ads for free. You could also check at a vets office to see if she is microchipped. They may be able to find the owner.

There could be a house full of kids crying about that dog right now. Better to try to find out before you put her down.
