I have a 89 sea ray 23' with a 7.4. It has a water pump in the lower unit (replaced two seasons ago) as well as an engine driven raw water pump, which also drives the fuel pump. I have two questions. How are the connections supposed to go on the engine driven pump? I took it off and forget how they go. I have the hose from transom going to the top of the pump and the lower outlet to the engine. It would be very difficult to hook them up the other way. I do have water coming out the back but not sure if its enough and i want to make sure. My other question is do I need both? I realize that the raw water drives the fuel pump but I could install an electric fuel pump. The reason I ask is that the pulley is wobbly and a new pump is crazy expensive. What do you think?

I'd say the motor was replaced, with an updated one. You don't need 2 impeller pumps. The engine driven impeller/fuel pump combo is pricey, but it's not driven by the water,it's a belt driven fuel pump/impeller combo unit. There may be arrows on the back stating rotation for the hoses. How about some pics of your set up??

Yes the motor has been changed. I believe that they are connected correctly the one that says left out is connected to the motor. Is that correct? I believe that I have a water issue. If I idle in gear or out of gear the temp rises to about 180. If I raise the rpm or go faster it comes down to 145. I am going to replace the water pump in the outdrive this weekend, it is due. Could it also be the water pump on the motor? I was going to change it just because but didn't not sure if that was a good idea.
