Re: Raystown

I didn't get to the cove until about 5pm, so that is why I missed ya! Maybe next time ...

As for the missing young man, he has not been found yet. http://wearecentralpa.com/wtaj-news-fulltext/?nxd_id=289677

Wow is all I can say,I wasn't but 500-800 ft away from there at one point that day.Pretty sad day...Just read the man was found, apparent drowning but also had medical issues.Godspeed to his family.

Now that the wife can drive the boat and trailer it,also doesn't prefer the taste of alcohol,ya it only got better.
I forgot to add that the cooler would've been in arms reach.... :)

I used to work field service and had a client in Huntingdon in the very early 70's. Drove up to new Raystown Dam and there wasn't even any water behind the dam yet. I guess things have changed.

LOL, yeah I told my grandmother I had just been to Lake Raystown and she said "yes, your grandfather and I went out there when it was first built"

I have realized I am getting a little long of tooth when I mention to someone about something I did while boating on "the old Raystown" and they just stare at me and don't understand what I am talking about.

Yep, my first several years of life were on "old Raystown." I learned to swim, captain a boat, ski, and fish on "old Raystown!" Most of the time I wish we had "old Raystown" back! Our old place is about 120 feet under water.

Waiting for the coroners report, but the young man did have epilepsy. He was an athletic young man and a strong swimmer, so it is assumed the drowning was a result of a siezure. He was about 50 feet from shore in about 12 feet of water. His parents were so very gracious and supportive of the searchers and actually comforted those that were helping find their son. Very dear people, so sorry for their loss.

Understand that underwater part. I had a neighbor and friend who just passed away this Spring who had cabins at the "old Raystown." After the government bought him out he purchased land a few miles away and built cottages on it but it wasn't quite the same. He also had been an active member and founder of the old Raystown Lake Ski Club but since he was 83 when he passed you know that was some time ago.

Re: Raystown

Are there pictures of "old Raystown"? It'd be interesting to see old vs. new.

Re: Raystown

Never saw Raystown Ray in the old lake ... and I have lots of pictures of the old lake, but they are on film strip ... I am trying to get them converted into .jpeg, but since I updated computers and operating systems, I no longer have the software for my antiquated converting hardware, and there is no support for the newer OP's. When I get new hardware and software I will post.

Hey McFlyin, is your SeaDoo red? Where you around PeeWee Island in the James Creek inlets around 6 or 6:30pm on July 4th??? We were in the white Renken SeaMaster dual console ...

We got out about 5pm today and headed up lake, stopping at PeeWee Island for the youngest to swim a little. Then we headed on up lake to just above Heritage Cove (saw a guy pull in about a 10 lb channel cat just across the river from the docks there). Turned around and headed back in the dark. Got back to Snyder's Run around 10:15pm. A great time had by all!

Sorry bout the late response. We were out there but my boat is green. I saw a few seadoo sport boats out there during the day. Saturday before the 4th was absolutely nuts. Boats everywhere. Tuesday was absolutely awesome. Spent all day out there. We put in at 7 Points and went up towards the damn, hung out at the cliffs as well for a while. I am not 100% sure where the island is your talking about. What mile marker is it off of. we didnt really venture too far down. I think we made it to mile marker 17. Thats the furthest we made it down the lake. Wanted to run the whole lake but we got tied up playing...lol

Locals would say you went DOWN to the dam, even though that is north.

Pee Wee Island is the tiny island in the James Creek series of coves, across from mile markers 13 & 14.

Sorry we missed you ... we put in at 7 Points that day, we live about 1/2 way between Snyder's Run and 7 Points, about 8 miles to either launch, so we take turns between the two. 7 Points is usually much more crowded and I hated having to wait for all the others to launch.

That was the first weekend that I got the boat wet in about 15 years, and it will probably be the last in a while ... the weekdays are SO MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE!

Looks like Saturday evening and Sunday are out for me, but I may try to put the boat in the water Friday evening and head your way ... you gonna stay up lake or head down lake?

Re: Raystown

I would imagine we'll be all over. It's gonna be hot so fishing will probably turn into cruising earlier rather than later ;)

Re: Raystown

Wicked day yesterday ... way to busy and no sleep because of a nighttime fire that claimed the lives of a family of 4. Outside work, closed on a rental trailer, and then a funeral for a 30 year old neighbor. By evening it was time for some R&R! Hit the lake and met up with ezmobee and yorkboater. Didn't spend long with them, but had a nice meet and greet. Water was beautiful and just what the doctor ordered. Now I am ready to get back to work today!

Re: Raystown

It was nice to meet you Art and your family. When we got back the rest of our party had already eaten without us! :p

We had a nice weekend on the like despite the ridiculous heat. We hung out in Shy Beaver cove for a good while on Saturday actually in the shade and did some swimming. I went out by myself on Saturday night near dusk down near the campground and caught 3 huge bass! As it was still oppressively hot today, we decided enough was enough so I just fished for an hour or so before we headed out. Didn't have much luck though today.
