The motor in questions is a mid to late 1980s V4 120hp looper. Last season i plugged the pulse line but DID NOT change the fuel pump. The engine has never missed a beat running pre mix but this season i was going to either completely remove all traces of it OR Re-commission the whole lot.

I have checked the top secret files on the subject of removing the VRO but all its says is to plug the pulse line from under the carb and a link to buy a new fuel pump.

My VRO was working perfectly but i had read a good few threads that it is best to by pass the VRO altogether and run Pre-Mix. Surely not all VROs were doomed to fail ???
I gather there will be a lot of Pros and Cons but which is best ???
The motor was designed to run with the VRO will it run better than running pre-mix ???

??-----How do you run a fuel pump on a 120 looper if you plug the pulse port ??

I may have been mistaken sorry. I should have said the feed from the oil tank. The pump must be drawing a vacuum from the crankcase 120V4.jpg ????

Fuel pumps generally run with a PRESSURE pulse from the crankcase ! ----If you are unsure of your VRO pump then run some tests on it.----Easy to test oil consumption and the alarm function.

Last year when i got the motor the buzzer was faulty. Could possibly have been am chaffed wire but i had a new one so i replaced that. The pump was moving oil but how can i tell the consumption ??? Removing the VRO was a "What if it breaks" sort of thing. How reliable are the pumps ??? What is there weak points ??? Does the engine benefit more from the pump mix or pre mix fuel ??

VRO use both pulses to operate...better stay pre-mixed if original VRO. If later OMS pump not so many fail as earlier models

The pump is easy to take apart for inspection.------The pumps themselves are quite reliable.------It is the hoses / fittings and filter in the tank that require periodic inspection.-----Factory manual clearly outlines the test procedures for this pump.
