Re-mounting Outboard

I'm in the middle of a transom replacement. Obviously I'm going to need to re-mount the outboard at some point. I bought the boat as a project so havn't run it myself yet.

The engine was originally mounted with the ACP 1 inch above the bottom of the boat, but also the whole engine was mounted 1 inch offset to the starboard.

I have replaced the outboard cutout, so that it can be lowered by 1 inch so the ACP can be level with the bottom of the boat.

My main question is, should I re-mount the engine with the 1" offset. I'm guessing the offset is to counteract torque?

Re: Re-mounting Outboard

Paddy, I have never heard of an offset outboard mount, that wasn't an error. It is best to center the motor.

As for the height of the motor, the 1" height might give better performance. I would mount the motor so you could raise it up for a test.

Re: Re-mounting Outboard

Thanks for the help

Ok, so if I mount the outboard initialy on the top-hole, with the ACP level with the bottom, I can then experiment by lifting it a couple of notches. I couldn't lower it before so that it was level, as the transom was cut at 21" with a 20" outboard.

Also sounds like it would be better to center the outboard.
