I am new to boating and not all that mechanically inclined. Found a local shop offer the services below. Does this seem reasonable, and is there anything else I need done? I have a 3.0 Mercruiser. Thanks for any input.

Run-up and check hoses and belts, stabilize fuel, check shift, throttle and steering cable movement and connections, grease all engine and outdrive external fittings, inspect bellows, check and top off fluids, change oil and oil filter, change fuel filter, fog engine, drain block and manifolds, install bio-degradable anti-freeze, change gear lube (if necessary), remove stern drive to grease and inspect U-joints and gimbal bearing, check engine alignment, grease prop shaft splines, clean out Speedo pick up, remove hull drain plug, grease buddy style trailer bearings.

Four Cylinder Engines $400.00

V6/V8 Engines $485.00

Bravo Engines $507.00

''Cheap'' in one area is ''expensive'' somewhere else.

Post you location and seek feedback from locals. A winterization in a high-end town for an average I/O might be twice as much as a small-town place with a lower median income.

Re: Reasonable winterization/price?

I'm located just south of St. Louis, MO. This shop is real close to my house, that is why I called them first. My first time winterizing an I/O so I wasn't sure on pricing.

I'm just looking to get what I need done and not get ripped off.

I live in the Minneapolis area, and labor at boat dealers is about $120/hour, and the prices you list are relatively close in the ballpark to what dealers are charging around my area. You might compare this to other people offering the service where you live, to see if this is typical, high, or low.

For everything I see, the prices look great. It may seem like a lot of cash, but they are doing a ton of work!

My marina charges this same price and they don't "remove" the outdrive for inspection. Their moto, "if it ain't broke, don't take it apart."

Git-r-done!

For Atlanta, this is a little high. If you haven't done so in the last two to thee years, I would have the impeller in the outdrive changed at the same time.

If the really do pull the drive off as they should with any winterizing package that is a fair price.
I charge about the same for the full service deal except i do change the gear oil.
Not sure what they meant by change if needed? It needs changed yearly anyway.
