Re: rebuilding engine

Salt water rusts and corrodes the inside of a raw water cooled engine. Automotive and boats with a closed cooling system has antifreeze in the block, which prevents the corrosion. Salt water and air are deadly. I also haven't heard of vating, but assume you mean putting in in a large vat of chemicals and boiling out all the gunk. But in reality, on a salt water engine, that gunk is old pieces of rust (aka old layers of the cooling system)
Like Bondo said, replacement is you only GOOD option.
You may not buy it, buy you will soon if you try.

Re: rebuilding engine

not sure on the cost where you are but we charge $60 (thats about $48usd) here to hot tank a V8 engine block. The only way to know for sure is to have it cleaned and than accessed by a reputable engine shop. I'm betting it’s rubbish by now but only a chemical clean and inspection will prove it! Good luck.
