Something tells me you need to set the dwell back where it was.

I'll try and reset the timing the best I can. The points gap is at .025, but dwell meter reads right around 30*. It was at 24* after the rebuild. Factory settings are 28-34*.

i wouldn't worry that much about the timing after setting the dwell it wont change enough to make it not start. do you have spark at the plugs? check that first. if you do then its probably a fuel problem. i have set the dwell on many engines with the dist cap off using the starter and its usually the same after i crank them. after you get it running then set the timing. it will be close enough to start it

Re: Rebuilt carb, now wont start...

Well after a long delay I started to try to rebuild the carb, as I pulled it off the engine, I saw the manifold gasket was backwards. I guess I put it on the manifold first instead of the carb. Dumb. Flipped around, and cranked it up, and after some pumping she fired up. She also will now rev above 2k without stalling. A victory in my book.

With it running I checked the dwell, which was at 31*. Tried checking the timing will have to wait till dark cause I cant see the mark right now. It is idling high. My question is should I try and adjust the idle speed and mixture first, or the timing. I would guess the timing, just want to make sure. After that I'll take her to the water and tune the idle just right. Thanks for all the help, any other recommendations of things to do before I take her back out?

Ayuh,... Timiing is dependent on rpms,...
Soo,...
It's Idle, Timing, then Idle again,... Then Check the Timing 1 last time....
