Re: Refinishing oiled teak with a varnish?
Sorry its not the greatest photo but I'm away with work at the moment and this is the only one i have on my iPad which kinda shows some of the woodwork in my boat.
The main area I want to refinish is the locker which goes the full width across the back of the transom, just visible behind my seat. It has had quicksilver teak oil applied to it during its life but none for the past twelve years that it was in storage before I bought it. The woodwork now has a rather unsightly coating on it which to me first appeared to be perished varnish (slightly glossy and a definite coating / buildup). This would become sticky when damp and turn blotchy and rub off when wet. Ugly.
The main access to the boat is by stepping up onto the top of that locker from the swim platform so it does see more traffic than the rest of the woodwork, and the fishbin is located under the centre section, so getting fish blood, bait guts etc splattered over it is hard to avoid. For these reasons I would like to refinish it in a durable, easy to clean and maintain coating. I was leaning towards a satin finish aliphatic varnish but then this would not match the rest of the woodwork through the boat, and there's lots of it!
So, I guess what I'm after is a teak oil looking finish that lasts better than teak oil

What about the Semco products?
Cheers
