Re: Reinell Restore

Looks like you have a good bit of work to do.
Personally I like the boat, nice lines, good layout, nice all 'round family boat.
Sounds like you have in mind to add some fishing 'options' (for lack of a better term) to her. Do you intend to use her primarily for fishing?

Yes . I will fish the Puget Sound and coast. Crabbing, Shrimping, Halibut, Salmon, Lingcod, Sea Bass, and maybe even tuna. So would like to add fish boxes and baitwells and live wells to keep crab fresh. I would like to ad a walkthrough bulkhead and side cabinets for fishing tackle. The top of the cabin will be the storage for 8 crab pots. poles, and bouys. Would like to add an anchor locker with its own hatch. The engine cowling will be streamlioned to give more deck room.

Sounds more like a workboat.
Hate to see her wind up that way, but the layout looks like it will lend it self well for the purpose.

Re: Reinell Restore

So I have some more questions. Since I am looking at replaceing the transom, I am thinking of adding a walkthough transom. Any thoughts on this. This boat has such a high free board, that just getting on her will be a problem inside and out( meaning I will need ladders). Also I am going to enclose the cabin. Any thoughts or ideas on that?

Ladders are an easier solution to me.
Personally I wouldn't cut a door opening in the transom, it will require structural glasswork, done wrong it will be a hazard and look wrong.

a boat like that can be moored, it can't be hard to get into a boat thats already in the water, a teak diving platform above the outdrive would help too.

Enclosing the cabin , I would leave that til later.
Heck you aren't done gutting yet.

I already have a swim platform. The boat will be trailer to and from the launch. The docks at the public launch are less than 2 ft from water to top. The current gunwall hieght 42-46 inches above the deck in the boat. That means some kind of ladder/s taking up deck space to get in and out. The location for the transom door would be above the swim platform and above the apparent structural members for the transom.

Re: Reinell Restore

Finally been able to get back to the project. Built a gantry to get the L6 out and the fuel tank. Will finish ripping out flooring. So here is my question that I need to start thinking about. I am putting a chevy v8 in and need to know things like how do I figure out how high to make the stringers that will support the front of the engine? Since I have alot of height to the top of the gunale, I am thinking of raising the deck so the engine is completely below decks. What would be the best way to raise the support frame for the deck? How to attach it to the sides of the boat? Also wondering about the feasibility of raising the cabin up about 12 inches? Any ideas?
