when i go into forward gear and throttle up i have to push it all the way down to the console befor its taking off as soon as i put it in forward gear it has to travel all they way before it picks up speed any ideas is this a cable adj or more a carb adjustment
same for reverese as you push to throttle up the change in rpms are so suttle you cant tell untill the arm of the throttle is on the console it a 1988 force 85
I have the same problem...1986 50hp. I am wondering if it could be because the control cables are too long? (I know for a fact mine are a few feet longer than I need...)
Just brainstorming out loud here...

That's SO FUNNY because I've had my boat out finally and it does the SAME thing with it's 50hp outboard. I thought it was just in my head. I think the problem lies in the cable-either the length is too long for my boat, or it's out of adjustment on the control side of the equation.
i was thinking out of adjustment so i readjusted cables at motor side by the manual. it runs smooyh goes into gear smooth. so what ur saying maybe the control end is out of adjustment.sould i adjust the control side first then readjust the motor.
no i have been abe to yet in the middle of a full resto on boat and motor went i but it all back i will be able to see if its a adjustment problem or a cable lenght
