I have a question for you. My boat had a 2001 225 fletch on it. It went bad and the engine was replaced with a 200 e200 stleub. My question is my oil tank has a hose with the pump up bulb that goes to the vro pump. The other hose on the tank has a bolt threaded into it now. Where should this hose attach on the new to me 200?

There's only one hose coming off the oil tank that I know of....post a picture.

This is a pic of the tank the picture of the hose rolled up with the primer bulb is what sits in the open hole of the tank. As you see in the top left corner of the tank is a hose barb. It has a hose hooked up to it but someone put a bolt in it to plug it off (quality craftsmanship) I just would like to know if this hose needs to be attached in order for my VRO Pump to work correctly. I read it is a return line for the tank. I'm not sure where the engine end of the line should be ..

sorrry to ask ..what is a 200 e200 stleub

a 1997 200 hp Evinrude FICHT Tiller salty ?

looks like a return line for retuning excess pumped oil from the FICHT crankcase oil injection system.

see manual

chat gpt for full length answer for a FICHT but your 200hp looks like a carb version on iboats parts list so the hose to return oil may not be neededsee manual

For the 1997 200 HP Evinrude Ficht, the oil system is very similar to the 2000 model, but the routing is slightly different because early Ficht engines had a simpler oil recirculation system.

Here’s the connection detail:

  • Oil Return Hose Location:
    • The small-diameter return/vent hose from the remote oil tank connects to a barbed fitting on the engine-mounted oil reservoir (not the OMS pump itself).
    • This fitting is typically on the upper side of the engine-mounted oil tank, which is located on the starboard side of the powerhead.
    • The purpose is to vent air and allow oil overflow to returnto the remote tank,
        • maintaining a steady level in the engine’s reservoir.
      • Oil Supply Hose:
        • The larger-diameter oil supply hose brings oil from the remote tank to the engine-mounted oil pump (lift pump) or directly into the integral oil reservoir.
      • Visual Cue:
        • If you look at the starboard side near the oil filter and vapor separator, you’ll see two hose fittings:
          • Lower fitting → oil supply (from tank)
          • Upper fitting → oil return/vent (to tank)

it is a carbed engine Thanks so much for the extra information.

On a 1997 200HP Evinrude carbureted outboard, there is no oil return line to the oil tank.

Explanation:

  • That engine uses a VRO (Variable Ratio Oiling) system.
  • Oil is drawn from the remote oil tank through a supply hose into the VRO pump, where it mixes with fuel before entering the carbs.
  • Unlike later Ficht or E-TEC direct-injection motors, which can have an oil return line to the tank, the 1997 carb model does not recirculate oil back to the tank.
  • Any unused oil in the engine’s recirculation system is internally re-fed into the intake, not returned to the remote tank.
  • ✅ So: The oil tank has only a supply line (and a small vent), but no return hose on that motor.
