Boy this sounds easy.. :) and my boat is a lot smaller. Only 18 ft & about 2,300 Lbs.

In theory: lower the front of the trailer; cut a Vee wedge & block it under the transom; raise the tongue; block the keel; install new rollers.

In reality: lower the front of the trailer; cut a Vee wedge & block it under the transom; raise the tongue; listen to the trailer jack make some crunching noises; watch the tongue drop about 10 inches; kick yourself in the *** for not using the hydraulic jack to lift the tongue; ask the wife if it is too late to add to your Christmas list (& hope she doesn't ask why you have to replace the jack you have on the trailer now) .:redface::rolleyes:

I don't believe I did that. Well, I need a shinnier one anyways. ;)

Longline you didnt really think a tongue jack would pick up a 2300 lb unit now did you I think you are just holding out for a new 8 ton hyd. jack BTW a 4600 lb or a 2300 lb makes no difference when it falls so pls be careful this job is as hairy as a billygoats arse. Mine slipped just a little on the jacks when we were lifting it and the whole back yard cleared out but after that there was no one there to distract us. terry

That sure looks like a lot of boat for that trailer

Longline you didnt really think

Absolutely correct. The only reason an 800 lb trailer jack will lift the front of the trailer is because of the offsetting weight to the rear of the axle. (lever & fulcrum) Blocking the transom takes that away and you've got the full weight of the boat & trailer on that dinky jack

Hindsight is a wondeful thing. Luckily, didn't do any damage as boat is heavy aluminum, was still sitting on the 2 good rollers & wasn't a full free-fall. Scary though & a lesson that won't be forgotten. :)

Mike you are rite as for now abt that looks like a lot of boat for that trailor but I will be going to the steel yard monday to purchase some steel to beef it up a little. The guy I bought the boat from thru this trailor to gether just to move it to his sales yard and I towed it to my place ( abt 10 ) miles and the rework on the boat begin now Im gonna tackle the rework on the trailor. As you can see in the pics I will need to replace the cross members and flip the xls to gain some height and clearence for the boat ramp.I also plan to add 4 inch srtruct. channel to the tongue to beef it up also to stop the side to side sway of the boat while towing it. It will be applied in an A- frame frashion with cross braces to help with the support. I am lucky in that I have been a welder all my life and had a big part in designing a try-axle trailor for the company I worked for before I retired. So this is not new to me I understand loads and weight distribution. The boat weighs 4300 lbs acording to the manufactuer (C/C ) web page. The xls are rated at 3700lbs each so that gives me a carring capacity of 7000lbs. I know the dry weight and the wet rate will differ. I will allow for that when I figure the bridge placement of the xls in relationship to the tongue weight. The xls are mounted on a frame and I cant regulate the bridge between them very well. I will just have to rely on the rear bunks which will be 9ft long with heavy duty supports and the two bow bunks that I will install when I have the boat back on the trailor with a heavy duty keel roller under the aft and forward part of the keel . I plane to install loading guides on both sides near the rear to help with the loading of the boat at the ramp I want to have a float on loading system I think it works better esp. in a running tide or a high wind. So I plane to post more pics as soon as I can get started PS I only have to tow the boat 1 and a half miles to the boat ramp and I live In the panhandle of florida which is very flat so it should be a easy ride to the ramp and back home. NO red lites and only 2 stop signs. Tks tboss
