I order a rebuild kit that comes with new pistons. I need to remove the old pistons from the rods. Anyone have a trick way of removing the piston pins without a press or special tool? I was thinking of either putting them in the freezer and than knocking them out with a brass bar or putting them in the oven and then knocking them out. The oven trick workrd like a charm when I needed to re-sleeve my Seadoo cylinder head. Heated it up in the oven at 350 deg for 30 min and they fell out like butter. Wife was a little disturbed about it but I told her it was no worse than some of the things she has but in the oven!!!!!

The proper way is to press them out. Place the small end in a rod oven and insert the rod thru the piston and rod at the same time. I Have used a punch and a hammer before, turned out ok. You still need to heat the rod in the oven, and put the piston pin in the freezer. That is the poor mans way.

Dont take the chance, just take them to a machine shop and have them changed when you get them, its cheap and good insurance. Some things should be left to profesionals.

Lubindude is right. If those pistons get distorted even slightly the results will be expensive.

No Doubt.... Take them to your local MachineShop.......
I Would'nt Assemble a motor Without Resizing the Rods......
Swapping the pistons is part of it.......
Good Time to have it All Balanced Too............ ;)
