I have searched high and low online for the best way to get rid of the old carpest glue the easiest and best way on my 21' Tracker Fishing Barge. I tried the heavy duty oven cleaner, heavy duty goof off which did work ok I tried gel stripper which wasn't as good as Goof off but nothing really got it down to bare aluminum and I was going to need a lot of chemicals which gets expensive. A $14.99 7" sanding disk from the orange box store is doing the job.
In a matter of 15 min I was down to bare Aluminum in a 4x4 ft area I had to stop to let the grinder cool down but it was ripping it up. Maybe this will be helpful to those getting ready to redo the carpet on their toon and don't want to deal with messy expensive chemicals. I think I will be able to do the whole deck with 2 maybe 3 disks. Best part is the finish has nice swirl marks in it for the new glue to adhere too! sander.jpg

love the flap wheels. also leaves a bit of tooth for paint, or new glue.

I saw a post recently about using a heat gun to loosen the glue so you can just scrape it up with a putty knife. Looks like what you are doing is working well for your aluminum deck. I wonder if it would do damage to a wooden deck pontoon? I have a wooden deck that I plan to recarpet this spring. I was thinking about using one of those oscillating tools with the flat toothed blade to remove the old carpet and hopefully most of the glue.

I have the same plank floor on my toon I used a big grinder with heavy wire wheel cupped.
Rather than carpet I used evercoat skid no more I love it the only thing I would do differently now is tint it a different color.

Cabella's also sells a rubberized roll on coating called Tuff Coat that comes in different colors.
