A little late to the game here, but... The roller does give some positive centering action that bunks may not give. They make a wide roller with a spiral in each end that serves to center a misaligned keel. Might be worth considering here. You can adjust the roller's height to allow it to center while loading, but become largely unloaded as the hull reaches its final position on the bunks.

Get rid of that roller and put yourself a set of bunks up front. With the bunks in the back you will have no more problems.Just angle the front bunks to a v where the bow will follow the angle of attack.Somehow i think this was a jerryrig

I saw those, Chip. One of those with the protective end caps might be the ticket. I think I'm going with the bunks for now, however. Thanks for you input.

I think it was factory, but no law says factory is right. I've worked on enough autos to know that. I think I'm going with bunks starting just forward of the stern, and go as far forward as they contact the hull.

Thanks,

John

I did just what you are talking about. The new bunks were 8' I spaced them about 18" apart at the stern so they guide the nose of the boat up. I'd never go back

Thanks. If you happen to have a picture, would you mind posting it? I think I'm on the right track with this. Should have the boat off the trailer this week (fishing trip) so I can get a better look.

thanks again,

Re: Replace roller with bunks?

John,

sorry it took so long to get back to you. It been one looong week. I don't have any pictures available, and the boat is stord where I will not be able to get to it for a while.

It was pretty simple. I spaced them about 3" apart at the bow end, and about 18" at the stern end. I had to play with the spacing a little at the stern end to make sure they did not allow the keel to hit the frame at any point. Just PT 2x4,covered with carpet. I drilled some screw holes in the frame, and used large wood screws from underneath up through the fram and into the wood.

Thanks. That's OK about the picture. I see what you're talking about. When I make a decision and go ahead with it, I'll bring this back up to the top with pictures and let everyone know how it works. Positive or negative. I've got two definite ideas now.

I want to thank everyone for their time, and let each know it was appreciated.
