Replacing Floor in boat

I bought a fixer uper boat no idea what kind it is 16ft tri hull somehwer in the 1970 era. :confused: :confused: The wood on the floor is not in good shape. Should I tear up all the old and frame a new one in. Is there certain types of wood to use? :confused:

Hello and welcome.... post some pictures, you are in the right place for help.<br /><br />Go ahead and get the numbers off of your engine, hull, drive etc and post them, so we know what you have.<br /><br />Again, welcome.

Thank You I am so excited to get this going I have never had a good fishing boat only small alum.<br />Model: 60ESL70 Serial: 13808816 Johnson Outboard<br /><br />I tries to have the hull numbers traced here in SLC but they had no record. I got it by paying back tax on it.<br /><br />I am praying the motor is still fixable!!!!!!<br />I do have pictures but can not get them to post.<br />If you have an e mail I could send them.

We have an entire section of iboats focused on rebuilding. I suggest that you go there and hang out for a while and put your post there.<br /><br />To answer your question - yes - often an older boat will need the floor, stringers and transom replaced. It is a bit of a nasty job but well within the capabilities of most folks. It gives you a heck of a feeling of accomplishment when you are done knowing that it is now better and stronger than when it was new.

I recently replaced the floor in my 16'Bonita. Used 1/2" marine grade ply, brushed two part West System resin on the bottom of the board, laid and screwed it in place. Then used two layers of biaxial cloth and resin on top. Afterwhich I cut some doorknob size holes ( 4 ) and poured in a mix of two part foam. The boat floor and bottom is now solid and takes a beating like never before.
