Replacing intake manifold-other things to do?

Hey guys. Working on a 1983 140 Evinrude. Lower unit shift screw was frozen in and while getting that out I broke the linkage on the bottom of the intake manifold. Got a used intake manifold today so as soon as I can clean it up I'll start putting her back together. All the reeds look good. Should I replace the gaskets from the reeds to the manifold? What's the best way to clean reeds? So far I'm putting in new water pump kit, rebuilding carbs, rebuilding fuel pump, prop shaft seal, new fuel lines, and plugs. Anything else I should do while it's torn down this far? Should I go ahead and replace the thermostats and pull the heads to check diverters? It had a good tell tale as it is but it was unknown how long it had been since the impeller had been replaced. Thanks.

Personally, if I was doing all that work I'd go ahead with new thermostats. You could check the diverters for peace of mind. I never reuse gaskets, too great a chance of leakage.

Just don't put any kind of sealer on the intake manifold gaskets or the reed block gaskets if you replace them.

That high performance engine already has the rubber intake filler blocks in the intake manifold. The only thing to consider is if you want to change out to some of the newer composite reeds while the intake is off.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to stick with the original reeds. They seem to be in really good shape. The used intake I bought came with the reeds also so I've got spares. Going to take them off and soak it in the parts washer. Went ahead and picked up a thermostat kit and head gaskets also.

Seriously need to consider a set of CCM or Boysen Sport Reeds. Huge improvement in idling and throttle response
