Doing PM replacing manifolds and risers on my 5.0XL RWC mercruisers with alpha drives.Salt water use. and the ones I removed are nearly new looking on the inside.I was stunned at how good they look.Hardly any surface rust.Passages are large and clear .Mating surfaces look new. All looks too good. They are 10 years old .Extremely low hours ,ALWAYS fresh water flushed after each use, winter stored with 50/50 antifreeze.Motors have never sat overnight with salt water in them.I am still going to replace them but if I were going to replace 1 or the other would I be correct in presuming that the risers wear faster than the manifolds..??
