Re: replacing speakers with bigger ones

Somebody more knowledgable might correct me, but I'll go ahead and give an opinion. If the 1900 is like my old 1650, then I don't think the wood underneath the back seats is in anyway structural. IMO, you should be find in cutting some larger holes there.

However, you're liable to run into some issues if you cut into the bases of the lounge seats(we are talking about the lounge seat with the glassed in wood bases, right?). I believe they are going to be filled with flotation foam. I don't think you would be removing enough foam to make any real difference, but if you cut into it you are opening up the probability of that foam getting eventually waterlogged. I personally wouldn't do it.

A location you might look into in the windshield walkthrough area. Mine had a couple of speakers located there when I got it...

You might get a better easier result by finding someplace to put in a powered subwoofer, and simply replacing the 4" speakers with something with mid and highs. It is the bass that requires the power. Your receiver should let you block the base to the speakers. My Ciera has room on the parcel shelf in the bathroom, which vents under the dashboard. I wouldn't put it in the engine compartment; might spark.

I would be very carefull to not get the speakers anywhere near the compass.

Ditto.

I cut my rear speakers larger, and mounted two more in the bow area under the front seats facing each other, it helped distribute the sound too. I did reinforce the front seats boxes before subjecting them to the added stress of a hole being cut int them.
