There can be several causes of that, bignev.
The most common is unrealistic expectations; this is not a chatroom where you can expect a reply in minutes. I guess it depends on what you consider "for a while" to be. It is not unusual to get a reply in less than a few hours, but it also may be a few days.
Some opening posts are too hard to read. There are many ways to confuse helpers. Many helpers give up and move on. Look here for ideas:

Some posts offer too little information for helpers to diagnose. Be sure that you include your outboard's make and model, with enough detail about your problem to include the clues that helpers use to decide what advice to offer.
Finally, and rarely, none of our helpers recognize your problem and don't know what to suggest. Rather than look foolish, we just pass it up.
