There can be several causes of that, bignev.

The most common is unrealistic expectations; this is not a chatroom where you can expect a reply in minutes. I guess it depends on what you consider "for a while" to be. It is not unusual to get a reply in less than a few hours, but it also may be a few days.

Some opening posts are too hard to read. There are many ways to confuse helpers. Many helpers give up and move on. Look here for ideas: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=250872

Some posts offer too little information for helpers to diagnose. Be sure that you include your outboard's make and model, with enough detail about your problem to include the clues that helpers use to decide what advice to offer.

Finally, and rarely, none of our helpers recognize your problem and don't know what to suggest. Rather than look foolish, we just pass it up.

Don't give up, Mate. There is nowhere you can get better help than iboats.

My pet peeve is titles that say things like "need help" "what's with this"....You get the point. The title should give the year, HP, and a very brief hint as to the problem IMO. I just don't have time to open them all and have limited/no knowledge on most of the engines. The engines I'm familiar with I can easily see if they are titled correctly. Best of luck. Rick.

ok i know you are only human and not an encyclopedia dont expect you to know everything the information you guys are able to give is most helpful to the guys that ask the questions if it were not for you guys we would be putting our hands in our pockets to get things done and not realy knowing what and when it was done or realy needed to be done and as we learn things from you guys we can allways pass the information on to others to help and advise them as you guys have with us thanks rick for your assistance

At the risk of offending your sensibilities, I will offer a bit of wisdom here. A great number of folks on this forum appreciate a well conceived and written question. My suggestion, at a minimum, is that you take the extra five seconds to use punctuation when making a post. To illustrate the importance: I only read the first part of your "sentence" above, then lost interest when I realized that you chose not to make yourself better understood upon first glance. I'm not trying to bust your buoys here, nor am I a member of the grammar police. These forum members really enjoy helping others if they have the means to do so. However, some effort on your part is required if you expect intelligent responses.

Sorry, but +1 on the punctuation. I normally leave a thread immediately when seeing a post where the words just run on.

But keep posting though. Everyone here loves to help other boaters.

hey hoobz you forgot to dot the i's and cross the t's. But then you have to remember they spell words the way they sound! So i don't know what the big problem is cant they read with out puncuation marks.

MOst of the time!!! They just don't know the answer.
What's the problem.

Detailed explanation.
Short paragraphs.
20 short paragraphs are much easier to read than 1 BIG long one.

I have to agree with the others,

The title should be a well thought out summary of what you want.

Punctuation is important. Sure we can read, but if someone doesn't take the time to write something in a way that makes it easy to read and follow then people who may be able to help them probably wont. Beggars can't be choosers as they say. Consider spaces between paragraphs.

There is a preview option for a good reason. Preview your request to see if it makes sense and is understandable, or ask for help on your terms and wonder why the answers don't come. Answers on this forum are not an entitlement.

You can find all of your posts quickly and easily by clicking on your profile button at the top of the page and then clicking on "find lastest posts" on the left hand side of the page.

This is a busy site and threads can get buried easily in the forums, but it's easy to find them when you know how.

Most of the time you will get a lot of good help on this site, but occasionally you won't... but all the help you get is free and from some very good people.

Unbelievable......Bond-o is exactly right- how can you criticize the delivery of free information? It's not a right to receive answers, its a privilege to be able to research problems on your own on this forum in order to learn and be able to repair problems yourself.
I mean heck, you didn't even start off with a question on this thread- you made a statement! How do you expect someone to answer you....???

When I see poor punctuation, words that are spelled phonetically, or other errors that a 3rd grader wouldn't make, I ignore the question and typically the thread. I figure that if the poster doesn't have the ability to comprehend the language, they probably can't figure out how safely and properly fix a motor, or make some other type of repair.... And when a newbie cops an attitude, it's even worse.

My two cents:

As a former English teacher, I will remind everyone of that conversation in which your English teacher pointed out that your spelling, grammar, and punctuation really did matter, and that your proficiency in each of these disciplines is critically important to your future success.

They were right, and they asked me to tell you so.

Watch every one of my future posts get proofread and criticized.....

(When I have a dangling participle, consider it poetic license.)
