Fish patties?

Fillets. yes, Minced patties, no.

Begins with catching and cleaning.
If you can, lace on a stringer, cut the throat, toss back in the water for 5 minutes so it bleeds out.

Filet them, then wash the snot out of them, literally, to eliminate as much of the fishy taste that people complain about.

Dip them in egg, or milk.
Roll them in seasoned flour, or an fish breading. bake or fry them in canola oil.

Or mix as a batter and fry.

The main thing is cleaning well. The meat can be as white as walleye if you rinse all the blood out of it.

Really nothing special about preparing northern pike.

Roscoe is right about bleeding them.

I spent a lot of time at the St. Lawrence fishing for northern pike as a kid. The fish patties sound great.

take some tinfoil and a brick. Pre-heat the oven to 350 and wrap the pike whole in with the brick. Season to taste. After 30 minutes, remove and unwrap the package. Toss the pike, and eat the brick..Same recipie can be used for lake trout..;)

Would that be souther red clay brick, or or northern limestone brick?

I never prepared them myself but growing up we ate them all the time and they were fine to eat. But then again I grew up eating bullheads, suckers and pickerel too.

As long as they are cleaned properly they are yummy! Have always enjoyed them ... just a bit bonier than other fish and hard to filet without getting all the bones out.

I agree, eat it off the bone by hand, its very good.
Once cooked it seperates from the bone easypeasy.

I usually run my Pike filets through my grinder. The y-bones will grind to nothing. Then make your patties with all your favorites. I mix with crushed crackers to get the firmness.

1 word of advise ... Do not and i repeat do not use any Muskies. i have known folks who did and never did get there boat running again or get fish to hit again.
