On my '93 Merc 135HPV6, the crowleymarine.com diaghrams show a bolt on the bottom end of the piston rod. Do you see it?

Re: How to Disassemble TILT CYLINDER ASY on V6

im going thru same thing now got fustrated with it as i couldnt find anything online about it. let me guess the o ring was leaking? finally i took to a good repair shop near me they told me its a entire assembly and you have to buy the whole "rod assembly" its about 250.00. mind you before everyone else blows me up telling me it can come apart i tried for a week and no avail. i got aggrivated with it and thats why the repair shop has it now  i really trust this shop and have never done me wrong and always helped me out. sometimes for free :p but keep us posted and good luck!!

TILT CYLINDER ASY 5.jpg There is a dialpin, but I don't know if it should come out or not.

I'm sure RRITT knows how it comes apart.......(hint):)

Don't take the rollpin out, holds the check ball in, bugger the roll pin, and you'll be probably be throwing the piston out. Have you looked at the parts breakdown, looks like outer plate threads into rod, try backing off with a punch, or else make a spanner wrench up

Sendind pick of the cylinder.
Ok I'll leave the roller pin alone.
I just want to be sure before I try to force something
I looked at the diagrams, cant make sense of it.

That looks like the memory piston, you're going to have to get that out and reseal it as well. To remove the piston from rod, clamp rod eye in vise, you can try to tap with a punch at one of the outer holes to loosen, or else, find two bolts approx same diameter as holes in plate, stick a prybar in between two bolts and try to loosen. Be careful, that whole assembly doesn't slip on you, make sure if you're going to go for a dive, it's all clear around you. If not of that works, make up a plate with two bolts/dowels to match outer holes, weld a nut to center of plate and give her a go. The threads might have loctite on them so it might take a good shockload to free up

Ok,sounds good.It does screw out counterclose,correct?
And the other part in the pic of the cylinder I just sent earlier, just pulls out with maybe a pair of neednose pylers?

Can't guarantee it, but suspect it would be counter clockwise. For the other piston still in cylinder, i would try to pull with needle nose pliers, just don't clamp too hard, that tube doesn't look too thick. Also that tube may be part of the cylinder. You might have to blow piston out with compressed air by removing pipe plug from mounting pin. I've attached a link from a later model, basically same design but uses bolt or nut too hold piston on too rod.

Yeah, the manual you sent clearly shows the nut and bolt approch, but my diagram, unless I'm blind does not show threads.I may be blind:facepalm:
I have tried clamping the round end in a vise, with 2by6s protecting it and trying to turn the other end with a bar,it just slipps in the wood, man that thing is tight!
I guess I am going to have to make up something to turn it as you suggested, can't afford to go buy a spanner wrech, already close to a hunderd on parts for it.
Thanks for your time.TILT CYLINDER ASY 8.jpg maybe here?

OK just did all this and had the same problem getting loose.you need to apply heat to rod just under piston to loosen loctite. You can get an adjustable pin wrench from most hardware stores. The cup stuck inside needs to be blown out with compressed air via pin that holds ram on to unit(with holes in it).DO NOT USE PLIERS,or you will wreck cylinder walls...then buy new unit.

If you're clamping on the piston you'll never budge it loose, the piston is being clamped between the rod and the retainer. The retainer is the one labelled "maybe here" on your picture, it threads into the rod. You need to clamp the rod and work at the retainer.

Only ever clamp the end eye section, flat sides obviously.ive got exact ram as yours on my 88 V6.My merc manual has all of this info step by step. You must have wrong manual or seloc copy.

I am not quite sure where I am suppose to blow the air in.
