Re: Respect the boat!

I personally don't care about the chips... I probably dropped more tortilla chip crumbs when I was feeding the ducks the other day. I just don't like kids. They're noisy, smelly, needy and they break my toys. lol.

HeloMech, do you have your rotary wing certification or are you strictly an A&P and/or IA?

Re: Respect the boat!

This just keeps getting better. If anyone disagrees with the OP, they have no right to judge, but the OP is quick to jump on the bandwagon that anyone that isn't apalled by this situation has to be a bad parent and/or a slob with their boats and possessions. The hypocricy and childishness is quite ironic.

^^^ gotta' crackup outta' that.

Read through the thread ... decided that you just had to hear from me :D You are probably a little over protective of your boat, but it sounds like your life suits that for the time being. That might have to change someday, but I think I see the frustration.

...I felt a bit more like an unappreciated chauffeur than part of the group having fun ... kids aren't gonna be a regular occurence for me, I think...
That's probably a decent summary of the whole deal. Especially with your buddy banging around in the forward locker. If you're not used to having kids around, and not prone to enjoying them (not sayin' you hate the little buggers or anything), then they can be a bit of a drain on you. It was probably exacerbated by your friend not showing the kids how to properly have fun, but rather starting to mistreat your boat too.

While I agree - kids coulda' gone without snacks on a 15 minute run - I would bet that if everything else went smooth as silk, the chips wouldn't have been THAT big a deal. They were just a lasting mark even after the rest of it was over - something to help you remember feeling unappreciated.

Three pages on this, kidding me, surprised no one is stabbing each other with knitting needles yet.

Re: Respect the boat!

Glad to hear that I'm not completely alone on this. It was surprising to see that this relatively trivial rant was so polarizing. As for the naysayers, I suspect a casual stroll through the marina looking at the various conditions of the boats would be indicative of their owner's stance on such issues.

I don't agree with your stance to call spilled chips a disaster, but I can assure you if you saw my boat on the dock, you wouldn't comment on the negative condition of my boat. My stance is not yours, my boat however is not in a state of disaster, with crumbs and potato chips everywhere!

Re: Respect the boat!

It's not so much that the OP is overly uptight about the chips or the parents behavior. He called it a "disaster" and simply attacks anyone who thinks that maybe he's overreacting and overly sensitive. Now anyone who disagrees about how difficult it is to clean up some spilled chips must have a derilect boat at the docks? What shmuck.

My boat gets covered in fish blood and guts. Pleasure boating is exemplified here in your statements. While my boat ends up immaculate, yeah, it gets nice and messy while I'm slaying fish. You may find it annoying that people make a little mess in your boat, others find it absurd that you would buy a boat just to "cruise around", burn gas, and get upset about the "mess". Kind of makes you a huge joke in a lot circles.

Resorting to personal attacks and stupid assertions based on someone's disagreement with your sentiments is what makes you an A-Hole, not the original blood pressure rise because a kid spilled some chips.

Re: Respect the boat!

I can appreciate your frustration. I am very picky about my boat. What can I say, I like things a certain way. That being said, I don't take kids or pets out because they tend to be messy and bothersome (not that my drunken friends cant be but I choose my poison). In your situation, I'd be frustrated too. Live and learn though right? Stick to grown up's next time. Least they usually acknowledge the messes they make.

One questions remains unanswered though..... did your friend fit into the anchor locker? lol

Lol @ Knot "did your friend fit into the anchor locker"

Must say I think some of the people responding to this thread really need to chill out a bit........go grab a beer or a *** or something. Appears to me that Geko was simply voicing his frustration. I don't see what is wrong with that whether you agree with him or not.

We always pack snacks and beverages for our kids (8 and 10) and for ourselves. We learned on our maiden voyage that chips will no longer make the cut for the snack pack. One wet hand in the bag just makes it a disgusting soggy potato soup and an inevitable mess when the wind catches.

As for the guy in the locker...........ummm that guy was me 20 years ago so I really can't say much about that one.

I knew I was in the other circle when they started talking about using vacuum cleaners on boats. what next, a feather duster?

Lynch Mob thread is now closed.

If you want to vent, then do it at home, not on the forums and expect the other 250,000 members to agree with you.
