Finally re-did my 302 Ford in my 1974 SeaRay CRV220 Just for grins and giggles though, I painted the block, pan and head Ford Blue instead of MC-Black. It was an adventure but we got it done .

For $30 just change the lifters( my 2cents)

Did Go with the new lifters, $4.00 each though...still, worth the extra peace of mind.

OK, we have the motor together and back in the boat!! WOO HOO!

Only two problems (for now)
  1. The mounting plate for the starter solenoid....I know it goes near the starter but I'll be derned if I cannot find two matching holes or bolts to put it on. Anyone wanna post a pic or give me directions?
  2. The lag screws holding the motor mounts to the hull have rusted and the wood inside where they penetrated the glass is punky. Any suggestions as to what I can do to repair those spots?

Hope to get her on the water next weekend to do a float test of the engine. Will keep all posted!

How, bout it BoomYall!? I could use your thoughts again!

That solenoid plate bolts to the back of the exhaust manifold........
You must remove the bottom two bolts of the end cap to install it.....
Much easier without the solenoid on that plate.....;)
If bigger lags won't work, I would drill out the crud until you get to good wood & fill it with epoxy & drill holes to receive the new lags.....:)

Hopefully, yours is not as bad as mine was. I had to pull the engine to rebuild the port side stringer that the motor mount went into. You might want to check your coupler and alignment. My engine sagged to that side because of the punky wood and caused everything to be out of alignment and stripped the splines on the coupler.

Good Luck

I agree with that, any time you move the engine from its mounts it must be checked for alignment.....;)

OK, I knew things were too sweet for me to install and go.

So, any suggestions on how to align that puppy? To quote NASA's Gene Kranz "What I need is a Procedure Gentlemen!"

Also anybody use that really thin & runny clear epoxy stuff (CPES™ Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer) like the Rot Doctor sells?

I've hears lots of good things and my brother used it to stabilize the sills on his 100+ year old farmhouse. He swears by the stuff.

Is that something that West Marine Migh carry?

ThanX for the Help!
