How are things comin with that old Johnson? Yours looks like a 58 model, by the looks of the shroud. Likely it's an RDS-20 model? It looks the same as mine, but mine has the all white cover, rather than the gold. From what I understand though, the covers are interchangeable between the two years. I posted a pic of the boat I'm getting.

i got the picture. it looks great and i am sure you will have a great time with it. i call mine a 59 but it could be a 58 model. it came with the boat which was bought in 59 so i have been calling it a 59. you are also right. it took me a little research to get some manuals (both maintenance and operations) for the engine and found out that it was an rds 20 model. the engine is matched pretty well with the boat as long as you do not want to be a speed demon on the lake. dont ge me wrong it goes fast enough but it is not one of those screamers. and it is very cool looking!.

keep me posted on how the boat is going. when i get more pics ii am going to post them. i started athread on the lone star boat forum too.

Yep, I got my new toy today. Mine is infact a '59 model too. The guy told me it was a '57, but when he got the title out, his guess was a couple years off. This is pretty cool, because my motor is the same year as the boat and what's even better is the transom is 21" and I won't have to do anything different to my motor to make it work. It's like a perfect match.
My truck is down right now, because I'm rebuilding the engine in it, but the guy was nice enough to pull it to my house and drop it off for me. It was only a few blocks, but it was a nice deed anyhow.

Yea, I'm not looking for a speed demon either, but I have something that is a classic and efficient. Better yet, it's exactly what I was hoping to match the old RDSL-21 of mine with. I was planning on looking for something this size next year and it came around a little earlier than expected. I need to do some carb work on my motor, before it'll run right. It floods out when I prime it, so I'm expecting the new float is not working right.

Yea, I want to do some research on the Lone Star boats. I was told that they were bought out by Starcraft?

good for you!! you will have a good time. rebuilding the carb solved all my engine problems with a few other minor changes in fuel line and such. i think that lone star was bought out by chrysler. i need to research that too.

good luck!

Yep, I was looking online too and I think you're right.

I see the Newport model was relatively close to the Saratoga model, with the exception of the styling on the side.

I think that would depend on your location and what the market will bear. Do you have a pic of it? You can see how nice they look with new paint:D
