Just got this little JW in on a trade from one of our fellow members. It's a nice running little motor. I completely went through the ignition system, with new coils and new spark plug leads. The points and condensors looked good enough to put back into service, so I just cleaned this little bugger up and ran it today. Sure is a screamer. :D

i picked one up a few weeks ago and fired it up this week.
That is by far the best running motor I own! Can't wait to get it on the boat.
I do believe mine has the exact same dents in the tank. LOL
Have fun with it.

LOL, yea, it's pretty tough to find one without the dents. Poor little guys, they get banged around like that and they just get up and run like mad. :D. This here is the little Yachtwin I got the same time too.

My theory is that if you're gonna go all the same work to get an engine going then you might as well get lotsa ponies out of it! :)

And yes Zephyr, it looks like a screamer... 3-5 mph on a suitable hull? :)

LOL Yep. It actually had enough cahoonahs to kick water out of the barrel. :D Wait till you see my 1hp TAS Motor. Now there is a screamer. It's rating comes in at 6500 RPMs. LOL

Yea, I have my share of bigguns too. Two 35's and three 40's  Those ones seem to be cheap right now, so what the heck. The '58 Lark will be nicely tuned and ready to sell, on the Sabre Craft, this summer. Kitting those bigguns up on boats, is pretty much my plan with them.

My collection of little guys is getting pretty big, so it'll be nice to get a 12 footer and use for kickers on my Lone Star.

Steve A W, what is that motor in your avitar? It almost looks like a 1.1hp Ranger or a comparable ELTO

Thats the motor that started this hobby.
It's a 1951 Neptune model A1, 1.7hp.
I found it at a garage sale. The Guy having the sale picked it up and roped it over and it started.
I was hooked! Gave him the $20 and became a collector!
How do You post a picyure on this site?

Sweet. That old Zephyr in my avitar is what got me started. I rescued it from going to the scraper and found out it was number 66 of the 4404 model.
I like the Neptunes. I had one or two of those in the past. I actually have a motor tinier than that now. LOL

I use photobucket. Sometimes I still use attachments, but the photobucket inserts are nice and big and easier to see stuff.

I love that little JW. I definitely gotta get one. My little air-cooled Tanka 3 hp is ok, but those old OMC are sweet and about 1000 times cooler lookin'. Cheers on the good trade!

Yea, I have a 1hp TAS Motor, which pre-dates the Tanaka. Talk about a tiny drink mixer. 1hp rated at 6500 RPM's. LOL

It's going to be my next project. :D:D

It will grow up and have several litters of its own. That's why we always end up with a couple of dozen motors in a few years...and they all need to be fed and watered.

Did they keep making the JW model into the "all white" Johnson paint years? All of my motors are of the white wedding cake era variety and my boat is white too, so I'd love to find a little, white JW to use as a kicker one day. That little gem is gonna be a head turner at the dock too. Happy vroom-vrooming!

Mas, I hate to correct you but I think you meant to say gassed and oiled not fed and watered:).

The '59 was white. I'm not sure when they changed after that.

Yea, they stayed with the basic style through 1963. 1964, they beefed up the midsection, but kept the same basic style. In 1969, the bumped it up to 4hp and gave it a fiberglass hood with a remote tank.

and yes, the '59 was white. The one like I have, was that color from '56 to '58. Earlier ones were sea mist green. I like the older green ones too. The earliest white ones were cool too.

I got My JW13 on the boat today. All I can say is "How Sweet It Is"
My Girls and I ran it all afternoon just playin and fishin.
The boat is a 16' Smokercraft Big Jon, so We didn't break any speed records.
But it was just right for the lake with a 10mph speed limit. We probably wern't
anywhere near that but it still used a lot less gas than Idling the '57 Johnson 18hp
We usually have on the boat.

Sweet. They are nice little motors. I just installed the pump on my Yachtwin yesterday, so it's a good runner too. They run forever if they're tuned and running right.
