Rewiring advice needed - Ford 302

I am in the process of rewiring my ford 302 engine harness. The old alternator (an auto one the PO installed) had the usual pos & neg terminals for the battery plus an orange 16 gauge that went to the input side of resistor.
I just purchased a new alternator with the battery + - terminals plus connection for 12+ volts ONLY when running.

What are my options for this second 12+ supply?
Can I run the choke AND/OR the ignition coil from it?

I will be removing the resistor setup when I install the pertronix ignitor & coil.

Thanks

Post the make and model of the alternator you bought.

Ayuh,... That's pretty much Gotta come off the Igntion circuit, don't it,...??...

As for DB,..
I bought a starter for my 7.3l in my truck from them years back,...
Ya, good service, cheap price, but the shippin' delay...
It lasted as long as the Napa starters that have followed it,... about every year, 'n 1/2 or 2....
It's noticably draggin' now... Probably pop a new 1 in next week or so...

The orange wire you have on your engine is for an alternator with a remote regulator. I have no idea where it comes from, no real wiring diagram for the old Fords, there is one (for what it's worth) in the owners manual, but it doesn't show where the wire comes from.

See if this helps any.

All I seen on this link were AUTOMOTIVE starters and alternators.

You must have been looking to hard to see it.

Just to comfirm, the black wire only has power when the motor is running? So ignition and/or choke can be attached?
Thanks for your input.

Not so much running, but when the ignition switch is in the run position.
You don't want it hooked to the ignition coil, if the coil is seeing reduced voltage from a resistor wire or ballast resistor (if it even has one).

So the black wire is 'like' a switch for the alternator, if there is 12+ running thru it the alternator will produce charge.

e.g.
Alternator spinning with 12+ supplied to black wire equals CHARGING

Alternator spinning with No volts supplied to black wire equals NO CHARGING

So the alternator is excited by the black wire....

I just like being 100% sure about these things, especially when electricity and fuel are close to each other ;)
