Rolled Roofing

When laying rolled roofing down, do you use the black tar at each overlap?
Also, how big of an overlap do you create?

Yes.

The asphalt roof coat is used. It usually comes in a 5 gallon bucket, and is extrememly sloppy. Becareful on the edges of your roof -- If your not, the roof edge will look like crap.

1/2 lap roofing requires a half-lap of coverage. It's a heavy felt paper on the top half, and while someguys only mud the edges where the next lap will fall..... I'm convinced I'm gonna slop and mop the whole top 1/2. The tar is relatively inexpensive compared to a leak.

Ayuh,.......

Are you using 1/2 lap, or single coverage,..??..??

I put a layer of Single Coverage on the Riverhouse to band-aid it thru til the Big Lift is over, when it'll finally get a Steel Roof......
We slathered about a 6" strip along the lower edge of each sheet......
And the Overlap worked out to about the same 6" in most places,....
Some were slightly more,+ some slightly less....

I'm convinced I'm gonna slop and mop the whole top 1/2.

That sounds alittle Extreme to me,.......

I'll take extreme over a leak ANY day. I've never had a leak on a flat roof yet, knock on wood. Water is such a sneaky beast.

I used rolled roofing on a stable once.

Used the tar at every overlap of about 6". Still solid when I moved.

Yea went with the 6" lap and black mammy at the laps.
