I am rebuilding a '67 Mercruiser 165.
Someone told me that marine engines rotate in the opposite direction compared to an automobile engine. Is this true?

Re: Rotation Question

Counter rotating engines are usually found in boats with twin engines/drives. One turns one direction and the other turns opposite. This is to help cancel out torque twist in the two engines.

In single engine/drive, the rotation is standard as a automobile ususally........SS

Re: Rotation Question

Tony, your enging is conventional rotation, looking at the waterpump pulley it will rotate clockwise.
