Is there a plug or screw for the hull? I noticed a hole accross from the drian plug in the rear of my boat and water coming out from this baby finger hole.

A picture sure would help.

If it is not the drain plug, what is it?
It may be open for a reason.
Is there anything connected to it on the inside, and where does it run to?

You know were the drain plus has a dip, in that dip, there is a hole right across from the drain hole and plug, I guess it would be a drain from the hull?

There is some kind of metal around it and I can't see were it goes, it in the dip from the drain, water can fill up to 4" in this dip, the hole I am asking about is going towards the front of the boat.

It kinda sounds like you're describing the inlet to a livewell pump. Post some photos when you get a chance.

Sounds like a hull drain tube to allow water from the front to exit into the rear bilge maybe from a front rope locker? or front hull compartment that does not have a pump. Some boats have a storage locker in the floor between seats that drains this way.

the "dip" you are referring to is a sump... you would put a bilge pump here... the hole is to allow water to drain from below your floor or from a forward compartment.

Re: Runabout hull plug?

Hi to all and thanks for the replies, smokeonthewater is most likey correct, I have a picture but don't know how to attach to the thread, the sump is about 6" by 8" and 3" deep. If water is coming from that hole, should I be worried?

The reason I'm asking is; it rained very heavy and a lot of water was inside the boat, when I got all the water out, I noticed the water coming from the hole when I tipped the nose up, water was coming from the hole that I believe is the hull. Should it be plugged so no water enters in it?

the bow should always be up when it is parked and the drain plug out... no water will enter it if it has to go up hill to do so

No. If you plugged the fore hole that is designed to drain the fore lockers, then when taking on rainwater or splashover towards the bow, all that water would be trapped and could not be purged via bilge pump or transom drainplug.

Aren't you asking if it should be plugged while in the lake underway so the boat doesn't take on water through that hole?

Nope,.... The under-deck area needs to be able to drain out to the pumpable bilge,...

To attach a picture, click the 'go advanced button' and follow the instructions, or open a photobucket account and after doing so, click on the URL for the picture.

Maybe yes, maybe no.

If its a drain from a ski locker or an overflow from a livewell, then yes. If its intended to be a drain from the bowels of the hull so the spine of the boat doesn't rot, then NO it should be capped.

My last boat had no lockers or wells, but it had FIVE holes going to the bilge area where the pump was. Each came equipped with a rubber cork (cap) from the factory. The owner's manual was very specific. They were to be capped while the boat is in use so no water went inside the hull, and unpluged when the boat was out of the water and in the garage so moisture would drain.

That's the problem with all the stuff they build today....they rot because water is forever trapped under the deck.

Best if you find out where it comes from. Fill the lockers and/or live wells (that have a visible drain in the bottom) and see if water immediately comes out.

Can not figure out the go advance, they don't make it easy to post a pic, tried to get into photobucket and can't figure that out either.

Re: Runabout hull plug?

Another good example; last year I covered my boat and at the end of the winter into spring, removed the cover and the boat had 3" of water!!! Snow got in somehow, but tipped the nose further up and water was coming out of that hole I mentioned and did not know there was a hole there until a few day back when I posted the question, SO IT SHOULD BE PLUGGED?

Don't plug the hole, and try to keep the bow higher when stored. You WANT all the water that can draining from the hole, the only way it can exit the hull is out the back.
