Good morning all.
My 21 foot cabin boat is fitted with a 225 HP vro Evenrude. the propellor combination is correct and all is well . I will be doing a lot of low rpm trawling as well as mid rpm cruising, Trawling at 2000 rpm and cruising at 3000 / 3500 max rpm. Should I use hotter running plugs ( to burn oil build up off the plug electrodes) .would a synthetic oil be a better oil to use as a premix oil. the vro is in good working order but disconected. would a change in mix ratio from 50:1 to 55:1 make much of a difference ,
Kind regards Captain William Wright

if you are propped correctly at wot. then run as is. synthetic will smoke less.

You could also use a decarb product in your fuel along with the oil such as seafoam. I myself use the BRP "Carbon Guard".

Synthetic TCW-3 oils have a higher flashpoint and more consistent quality than standard TCW-3 oils. They therefore will tend to produce less ash or carbon.

The most significant point is that the engine is running at the proper temperature, so be sure that the thermostats are funtioning properly.

Some 100% synthetics, like Shell's Pennzoil brand, are biodegradable.
