'89 Suzuki 30hp (oil injection) starts right away after priming and runs just fine for 10-15 minutes before dying (either at idle or at speed). Re-priming seems to get it going again, but each time it gets a little shorter until you have to perform cardiac massage on the primer bulb to keep it running.

I assume either fuel pumping is getting weaker by the minute or there is a restriction or air leak somewhere.

-Gas bowl is still full when it stalls.
-Fuel delivery seems okay. Primer bulb is not suctioned flat. Filters, pickup tube, fuel fittings, gas lines, o-rings, tank vent all checked and function properly.
-Fuel pump is securely mounted and internal diaphragm looks intact, although a bit puckered. No sign of pump leaks. Internal pump valves all clean and sealing properly. Cleaned and re-sealed pump gaskets anyway.
-No obvious air leaks.
-Haven't got a gauge handy, so I'm presuming the compression is fine as both idle and WOT are as smooth as ever.

Okay you gurus, any thoughts on what's really wrong with this otherwise reliable engine?

I'm thinking of putting in a fuel pump re-build kit just on spec. Unfortunately it's not easy to find Suzuki parts up here in the Great White North and what you do find sure ain't cheap. Those seem to be common complaints with Suzuki everywhere and something I sure wish I'd been aware of before buying this engine new. Oh well, live and learn.

At the other end of the scale I'm slightly worried it could be related to warm compression loss affected by lack of oil injection. I guess running with 50:1 in the tank for awhile would test that theory.

Thanks for any help -Dave

[BTW I just recently tripped onto these great forums and I'm very impressed with the quality of advice given]
