Re: Rust in Motor or Bad Solenoid?
Smoky, My '77 Merc 1500 had a single solenoid on the PTT unit. The schematic shows yours has two solenoids. You should stick with the two solenoids since the wiring harness is probably set up for two solenoids. The wiring harness on my '77 had much heavier wire on the down circuit, eliminating the need for the down solenoid.
It would be best if you bought the trim motor locally, so you can match 'em up. Pay careful attention to the length of the armature and the size of the flattened end, to make sure it matches your original one. The aftermarket PTT motor may be for more than one application, and may have an adaptor to make the armature longer, for your application.
