I'm not really sure where to put this thread. I got this boat without a motor on it and acquired a 71 Johnson 100 HP. I had a bit of trouble getting the motor running on all 4 cylinders, but have since worked everything out.
The hull measures about 15'6" and it flat out flies. The trouble I am having is it runs out of speed increase after about 3/4 throttle. I am not sure about what trim level I should set the motor to. The engine will reach the 5000 RPM limit but as I stated it stops accelerating somewhere around 3500. do I need to set the engine lower in the water? It is currently set at the 3 spot from the lowest setting.

Second, I have no idea what year this thing is. Nothing shows up when searching on google or bing. The sticker says it's an Admiral serial Number 6222, with a max HP of 100. If anybody has an idea of what year it is let me know.

The Trailer is a 71 and may or may not be the one that the boat came on.

as you can see in the pics there is not much for interior, other than a very solid floor and some PVC pipe! I plan on making 2 simple bench style seats with storage.

You might be able to fit 2 back-to-back lounge seats in that. For that boat, I'd start with the cav plate about an inch above the keel for your motor height.

Looks like the interior was done by Jed Clampett and Jethro Bodine.:eek:

After removal of all the plumbing and plywood, this boat did have 2 back to back seats. I would put the same back in, but this is a "no dough show", I have plywood, seat foam and vinyl on hand all I want to buy is some resin and mat to coat the new seats with.

This old boat is starting to look like something after a good bath.

I took a look at where the motor sits, and if I put it all the way down it is just barely below the keel. I won't be putting it back on the water until the seats are done.

yeah, with all the plumbing on this boat I wonder if they had any left in their house!

Here are a few pics after a good bath.

I built the seat bases yesterday, I will be finishing those up today. I plan on cutting the seat tops and back today. I am going to cover the seat wood with resin and use some mat to reinforce ans seat the joints.

When making up your own seats follow the process that is in the restoration thread. It goes through a method of encapsulating the foam padding. If you use that system you won't be dealing with nasty mildew water shooting out when you sit!
As far as the final few MPH at higher RPMs, that takes tweaking. Once you have her together set the motor height as said, then experiment with the down stop angle. On your motor I believe there is an L shaped bar that goes through the bottom bracket. It will probably run fastest with the motor just a touch higher than level to the bottom, by that I mean to tilt it 1 notch further back from the boat than level. It will mess with your holeshot a bit by raising the bow during liftoff, but unless you add power trim that's what to expect. You can have the grown ups at the front during takeoffs to mitigate the bow rise. And you can store some of you carried weight in the bow too.
Try the motor at lots of angles, and move the weight around til you find your favorite running attitude.

Re: Saf T Mate Admiral seating, power and year questions and pics

Hello All,

Just bought the boat from Carlos. Sort of a boat that grows on ya because it's got some
unusual lines, not a beauty queen by any means. It will be a good river boat.

Anyone know what is missing from the
front deck? Horn and Spotlight? Bow light also had something on top of it.
Transom sort of has a Swiss Cheese effect going with lots of open holes from previous
motors although it seems solid.
Thanks
